Napolitano stands by 'extremism' report
The Washington Times ^ | April 16, 2009 | By Audrey Hudson and Eli Lake

Posted on 04/15/2009 12:22:29 PM PDT by MaestroLC

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said she was briefed before the release of a controversial intelligence assessment and that she stands by the report sent to law enforcement that lists veterans as a terrorist risk to the U.S. and defines "rightwing extremism" as including groups opposed to abortion and immigration.

The outcry resulted in a demand from the head of the American Legion to meet with Ms. Napolitano, a request the DHS chief said she would honor next week when she returns to Washington from her current tour of the U.S.-Mexican border.

"The document on right-wing extremism sent last week by this department´s Office of Intelligence and Analysis is one in an ongoing series of assessments to provide situational awareness to state, local and tribal law enforcement agencies on the phenomenon and trends of violent radicalization in the United States," Ms. Napolitano said in a statement.

"I was briefed on the general topic, which is one that struck a nerve as someone personally involved in the Timothy McVeigh prosecution," Ms. Napolitano said.

"Let me be very clear: we monitor the risks of violent extremism taking root here in the United States. We don´t have the luxury of focusing our efforts on one group; we must protect the country from terrorism whether foreign or homegrown, and regardless of the ideology that motivates its violence," Ms. Napolitano said.

"We are on the lookout for criminal and terrorist activity but we do not — nor will we ever — monitor ideology or political beliefs. We take seriously our responsibility to protect the civil rights and liberties of the American people, including subjecting our activities to rigorous oversight from numerous internal and external sources," Ms. Napolitano said.

So that's why there have been reports (and photos) of government agents recording the license plates of protesters.

I do not trust any of the 0bamabots!

One man's rightwing extremism, can also be another man's principled conservatism for speaking out on issues that have strong influences on his/her politics and life.

OTOH. There are some moderate Republicans on this forum who think FReepers are a subset of conservatism. This is what the conservative movement is faced with every day. Liberal Democrats being joined by moderate Republicans in denouncing rightwingers as extremists.

Hussein al-Husseini. John Doe #2. Later got a job at Logan Air Port in Boston. But nothing bad ever happened out of there. Right?

"Janet Reno II"

Yes. Notice the physical similarities also?

It's almost like she tried to model herself after Reno, in her looks and her hatred of Conservatives.

Point-of-fact:

DHS, FBI, JTTF, etc... This labeling of “Constitutionalists” as suspected, possible terrorists is NOT new. There was proof of this leaked back in 1999/2000 — a brochure released by the FBI and the JTTF, and the Maricopa County Sheriff’s office which labeled people like that as well...

So, while this report itself is new, the general attitude towards “right wing extremists” is not... It’s been going on since Clinton was in office. Scarier now that Obama is in office though knowing the left’s dislike for military, and all divergent viewpoints... But, if you’re on one of their lists, chances are you’ve already been on it for a LONG time now...

Just because Bush was in office for 8 years doesn’t mean the attitude among the Federal “LEOs” was different...

The only thing that is different now is because with the COMMUNISTS in Washington daily stripping out Constitution they KNOW more and more people are getting fed up. That’s why there is this push now. Think of the effect it will have on the general public — if your neighbor starts talking about how Washington is destroying the Constitution, and you’ve heard this liberal propaganda about how these people are all racists and terrorists and such the average person who doesn’t know any better will be afraid and won’t listen to the truth of what they are being told.

I don’t know how to explain this exactly, but I think you can get the gist of what I mean. It’s definitely no mistake that they are pushing this out in the open and in the media RIGHT NOW...

Just like Obama, she’s good at pretending her actions are perfectly sensible, who can dispute that we have to watch for all extremist attacks?

Yet she issued a report that was more like a leftist wet dream.

While we are worrying about our soldiers and folks that don’t like paying high taxes, did she issue any alerts about poor inner city blacks (she said poverty causes terrorism), moslems, radical womens’ groups, animal rights activists, eco-terrorists, etc?

Just wondering

“but we do not — nor will we ever — monitor ideology or political beliefs”

That's gonna make it real hard to watch groups like AQ or Hezbollah

Perhaps you should also consider becoming personally involved in prosecuting unrepentant bomber William Ayers and members other liberal terror organizations.

So, you are EXTREME RIGHT WING if you oppose baby murder?

Liberalism is a mental disorder.

Death penalty for babies, and not for criminals

While I like “24” and the eventuality of evil white corporate types as the villains, these LibTards put too much belief in whatever Hollywood pushes for anti-American drivel. Did Oliver Stone write this script for DHS? Sheesh!

no...considering the power she will get from O’bumf***, she has the potential to be a much more dangerous POS than 'Rug Munchin' Reno.

I seem to remember no action on others (not to count the actual assassination movie as well as Air America, Rosie and Moore's personal calls to dispatch him). Some via Raster Master.

Nothing to see there... move along. Ooh, look at the shiny new dog.

So we're supposed to be tolerant? We're supposed to support Communism & Socialism?

We're galloping toward the day (the figures would indicate that we're already there) where the liberals in Congress are able to use the money seized from a minority of the voters to buy votes from the majority. With each year that passes, the actual tax-payers decrease in number while the tax-takers increase. Somewhere in this "payers vs. takers" scenario we're going to reach a critical point of no return. This will be a point where those on the taking end will recognize their electoral dominance and will start groping for more and more. At that point, the Liberals will have constructed their defeat-proof Congress and the ballot box will have ceased to work, at least for the people paying the bills.

I don't think so.... Force is going to have to be used as these criminals will not go quietly.
