Obama Tax Day Speech...Game, Set, Match Against Tea Parties
FR | 4-15-09 | Bob J

Posted on 04/15/2009 9:22:50 AM PDT by Bob J

I haven't even attended my local TP yet, but Obama has already pre-empted them with a speech that effectively moves the discussion away from the TP issues to his own, tax breaks (some) to the majority of taxpayers (50% don't pay any taxes at all), taking away tax breaks for the rich (resonates with most voters) and streamlining the tax code (won't happen but sounds good).

Sorry TP organizers, but you only have yourself to blame for framing these rallies based on taxes in general instead of focusing them on 1. the criminal activity that spawned the economic crisis, 2. out of control government borrowing, 3. the deficit and 4. who/how it is going to be paid.

Tea Party participants know what they are about, but those who don't won't have a clue and now Obama's comments will be thrown in the face of every point you try to make. If the purpose of the TP's was team building then that may still get accomplished, but if it was bringing your message to the masses then that might now get a little harder.

I hope I'm wrong, but the Obama Admin was ready for this and might have effectively muted the message and effectiveness of this first volley from the TP'ers.

A pilot has to know the condition of his ship.

This is only an issue for those who believe his bull crap.

There is NO WAY to pay for his multi-trillion-dollar spending orgy without either increasing taxes dramatically on ALL taxpayers (soon to be a minority) or printing unprecedented amounts of worthless paper and calling it "money". Many ordinary people with little financial knowledge instinctively sense this to be true.

But there is a larger picture here. Obama's master plan is to foment crises and then "solve" them by incrementally seizing power over private enterprises and disfavored institutions. All else is misdirection and sleight-of-hand, abetted by the "news media" that now acts as Obama's Ministry of Propaganda. Read Alinsky's Rules For Radicals - our President studied under the master, and it shows.

People that I talk with that aren’t working, on assistance, retired etc are fed up too. They aren’t exempt from taxes/fees on sales taxes, gas taxes, utility taxes, oil taxes, tire taxes...everything but breathing taxes. They also don’t want their kids paying higher taxes tomorrow so our government can live high off the hog today.

They don’t care about the speech itself, they wanted the sound bites to use against the TP’s.

Who's watching his speeches though? That's the real question.

Apparently you've never been to a TP or haven't a clue as to what they're about, because they're more than just taxes. It is about spending, bailouts, and fighting socialism in general. Are you trying to spread disinformation here?

Tea Party participants know what they are about, but those who don't won't have a clue and now Obama's comments will be thrown in the face of every point you try to make.

Bull.

If the purpose of the TP's was team building then that may still get accomplished, but if it was bringing your message to the masses then that might now get a little harder.

500 tea party rallies held in all 50 states isn't bringing the message to the masses?

Tax policy is a losing argument for conservatives.

There was only one “Tea Party’ before the Revolution, then there were other events. Similarly, if ‘Tea Party’ is not descriptive of what needs to be understood, then the next events will be called something else.

For today, the Tea Parties garner the proper attention.

There is a lot of work to be done, and today is really just a very loud first volley.

Well, maybe he should write a letter then. It’s only 42 cents (if you act quickly).

I’m going to my local one as well. My concern is Obama and the left have effectively muted them because the message was diluted and unfocused.

Anyone who doesn’t think this is media game is fooling themselves.

Who gives a damn? Are you really that clueless? Obama can say whatever he wants. people are still in the streets in protests. Those people have representatives that run for election. Do you think they care more about Obama’s PR move with his teleprompter or the thousands across the country rallying against them? They don’t just go away because the man makes a speech. Infact that speech may provoke more to join.

But if you don’t like what’s happening and think there is a better way, go organizing that better way yourself and do something productive ather than whine here.

IMO the TP message was too broad and using the Boston TP as a starting point was a miss step. Not focusing your message allows your opponents and the media to frame it how they wish and the will choose those that can be attacked the easiest.

You just said in your original posting that the Tea Parties should have expanded beyond taxes. Now which one is it? If you're trying to spread disinformation or trying to make us demoralized, you're failing miserably.

Most people pay little or no taxes at all, just look at the most recent Rasmussen poll and how many think theirs are too little or just right. How do you start with a message that won’t be acceptd by a majority of the people? You end up looking like you’re defending the wealthiest.

This message is being sent to the freeloaders and non-taxpayers out there. People who pay taxes are tired of doing so, and if that doesn't resonate with these people then they can go pound sand. They should be listening because if we go, they go as well.

The message should have been focused on the financial criminality, how no one is being investigated or prosecuted and who is going to pay for it (future generations). These messages would resonate with 90% of the people.

Fricking VIEW the Tea Party clips on YouTube and see the signs - people are talking about the bailouts and the financial community. QUIT BEING A TOOL!

Bob J, I've seen people fight harder to win at Monopoly! Obama gives a speech filled with lies and platitudes and you're running away, declaring he's won “game, set, and match”? Are you for real?

Okay...

Then, why don't you get the ball rolling by telling us and the rest of the world who the criminals are that caused the financial crisis. And, once you've identified them, tell us how to go about investigating and prosecuting them.

Also, since when should any right-thinking American listen to what Obama has to say? Whatever he says, we should start thinking and doing the opposite.

And, hey, listen up, the "tea parties" are about a whole lot more than just taxes. The original "tea party" was about taxation without representation, but, though the current title for what's happening today is also "tea parties", there are a whole lot of issues that people are "mad as hell about", and, "they're not going to take it anymore".

I suspect that it is you, Bob J., that needs to get more informed about what's really happening today, and what's been happening to this country for the last few years.

Obama is “dead man walking.” His eyes are dead, his presentation flat, and there is no blood in anything he says.
Obama can’t look away from the teleprompter long enough to acknowledge the “props” who have joined him on stage. Finally, the “props” follow him off stage in silence, like lambs to the slaughter.
There was a lot of communicating going on, and it was the exact opposite of intent. The speech was juvenile excrement from start to finish.
It’s a far cry from the warmth and humour of GWB, in fact I’ve met morticians with more animation than this fraud.
I’ll be at the nearest tea party (120 miles) hell or high water!!!!

He can talk about tax cuts all day. As long as the government is spending like crazy his talk is meaningless. They have to pay for this mess somehow and that money is going to come from us. They can tax businesses, but they’ll pass the cost on to consumers. They can tax rich people, who’ll find new tax shelters or move money out of country. They can tax corporations, who’ll move operations out of the US - along with jobs. No matter what they do, the taxpayers are going to foot the bill.

I must respectfully disagree FRiend. More and more his speeches are falling on deaf ears and the brutal reminder of filing returns today will trump anything he reads from TOTUS. Also, the size of government and the size of generational spending is also part of the inspiration. That message will get through as well.
