I'm glad the Liberty Sun got away, but it was still damaged, and the pirates are still alive. That's not good enough. Arm the ships or provide convoys. The article does not mention that, but it does discuss counseling for sailors who ships are hijacked and tells us that the chance of hijacking is "low" -- less than 1% for ships passing through the region.

We should avenge this attempt. It should not go unpunished.

Arm the vessels and crews. Convoys are a waste of money and material.

American sailors should refuse to serve on unarmed ships in this region. The fact thay they remain defenseless is ridiculous. Let the left/UN scream all they like. Arm our own citizens at sea and let them fight these Islamic thugs.

Gee!...do you think the crew might have been motivated not to get captured?....The pirates won’t let that story of three dead happen again!

A little “Chicago way” response would end this in short order.

This looks like a job for those Blackwater guys...

This is getting ridiculous. Just kill them and be done with it.

Still, statistically, the chance of being pirated in the region remains low less than 1 percent of the tens of thousands of ships transiting the area are attacked, Lieutenant Christensen said. Why is the act of piracy discussed in terms of "chance"? That has a disturbingly dismissive ring to it.
Piracy is and should be classified either an act of war or violent crime. Neither of those are "chance" events. Either merits a swift and lethal response. Instead, in keeping with the worldwide epidemic of the mental disease of liberalism, the victims of piracy are mostly denied the God-given right to defend their lives at sea.
More and more frequently, they don't stand a chance.

Helicopters, UAVs, more ships, decoy ships...all good ideas, but ignoring the simple solution...
Arm the merchant ships. Period.
And btw, the Navy should not be capturing pirates. If they see an un-flagged boat, with armed men on it, in international waters...kill them...you know, because when they shoot rockets at our ships, its kinda sorta like WAR.

SOLUTION:
1. Blockade Somali ports.
2.Find mother ships. The use of satellites and reconnaissance aircraft are authorized.
3. Launch hellfire missiles. Alternatively, use AC-130 gunships for slower but equally effective pirate deaths.
4. Mop up those who were out of the nest when mother was shredded.
5. Take and broadcast worldwide lots of neat videos showing the results.
6. Enjoy pirate free sea lanes.

I don’t understand why they don’t arm all the ships. Give the crew some machine guns or whatever is best and let them take care of these people themselves.

Better solution: Xe (formerly Blackwater) still has a proposal on the table to put together a fleet of anti-pirate privateers.
