RUSH: I urged all of you to watch "24" yesterday when we ended the show. I said, "Watch '24.' It's great tonight," and so you watched it, and I've gotten a lot of e-mails 'cause when the show was over, they had that dunce Chloe read some PSA about how she wants everybody to join Jack Bauer to save the world from global warming. I had all these people writing me, "I'm not watching that show again. How dare you tell us to watch that show again? First they had that president do it, and now they're telling everybody to join them." Let me explain to you why this happens. This is not the people at "24" deciding to do this on their own. That ran after the show. It was not part of the show. What I want you people to understand is that television networks, including Fox -- for a host of reasons, like a lot of American business, like all of General Electric -- they're all caught up in this whole notion of global warming.
They think they are gaining customers. They think they are doing good citizenship. So what happens is all of the Fox shows have been ordered by the Fox studio to engage in a more green experience when producing the show, a smaller carbon footprint when producing the show to put these messages on from members of the cast at the end of the show. And of course it's not hard to find cast members that actually believe the stuff. Believe me, there are plenty of cast members at "24" who don't believe this garbage, but there are a few of them that do and they're eager to go out and do this, but this is not the producers of "24"'s idea. This is the Fox network. It's like all the networks and a lot of businesses do it. How many business do you see advertising their product on the basis of "green" this, "green" that?
They think you've all bought into it. They're all populist. They're just trying to relate to you on what you think and get you to buy their product, watch their show, because they're saving the world, and you can, too. "Buy their product, watch their show, because you'll reduce your carbon footprint." I must defend my buddies on the production side of "24." This is not their idea. I mean, the boss says, "Do it," and they have to do it, and then they cast around for members of the cast who are dimwits who bought into this, and it's not hard to find out in Hollywood. So you put 'em out there, and bam, bam, bam, you get one of these PSAs, but I'm telling you, "24" this year is fabulous. Did you watch it last night, Snerdley? (interruption) Ah, you gotta watch it! It's just awesome, and wait 'til you see next week. Oh, yeah! They're outdoing themselves this year. It's fabulous.
BREAK TRANSCRIPT
RUSH: Here's what got everybody watching "24" so upset last night. This is Mary Lynn Rajskub, who plays Chloe, and this happened after the show.
RAJSKUB: Jack Bauer gets a lot of credit for saving the world one day at a time. But what's that about? Come on, it's a team effort. It takes all of us working together, some of us working harder than others if you know what I mean. That's why we at "24" are asking you to join us in helping to fight global warming. For tips in how you can reduce your own carbon footprint, go to Fox.com. Don't leave the climate change problem for Jack to solve, because he can't do it. He's got enough on his plate. Do your part. Join us today.
RUSH: I'm being deluged with e-mails, "I'm never watching this show again." Again, this happened after the show. Fox orders this kind of stuff to be done. It's not hard to find nitwit actors and actresses in Hollywood that believe this crap to do this. But remember, it ran after the show, had nothing to do with the show. It's not in the show. Global warming is not part of the show. In fact, they say their carbon footprint is much less than it's ever been producing the show, don't know how it's possible, all the damn explosions going on out there, and I don't care. It's demagoguery. It's like Obama, they may not be doing anything; they just want you to think they are. I'm talking about Fox, not the people at "24." The people at "24", employees. It's no different than your business, if somebody made you run around, type up a memo to everybody to reduce their carbon footprint and you had to do it.
END TRANSCRIPT
I met Mary Lynn once. Her late night talk show persona is a shtick.
Yeah, they had a “Green Week” last season where their shows all had some half-hearted enviromessage. On Chuck, the characters went to Stanford and there were booths set up for environmental issues. It was all background. The only real dialog addressing it was when a kid walked up to the character played by Adam Baldwin (a conservative actor) and tried to hand him some literature and he said, “Take a shower, hippie!”
Last night’s Chuck was more a mixed bag. The first reference to Obama. :-( But, I’m not so sure it was positive. Chuck’s CIA handler works at a frozen yogurt stand as her cover. She brought him a new flavor yesterday and said, “It’s called Obama Guava.” GROAN. But, she looked embarrassed and quickly added, “I didn’t come up with the name.” Later on, Chuck is looking for some information and says, “Why don’t we get it out of one of the agents we’ve captured?” Baldwin’s character says, “Since the new adminstration came in, we don’t waterboard any more. So, we no longer are able to get any intel out of captured agents.”
Oooh, on balance I’d say there’s a conservative mole on that show. :-)
Sorry for the off-topic detour.
Hey, I just referenced that episode without reading your discussion about it. Would you care to check my post #82 and see if you might agree with my take on it? I allow that I may be rationalizing because I don’t want to be alienated from Chuck in any way.
It was my only encounter with her, so that’s how I thought she was. Her listening to Rush—sounds like she’s more complex than the typical Hollywood actress. I can’t tell if she likes him or not, but most of the ones who hate him don’t even bother to tune in to find out why they do.
Mary Lynn’s comments on Rush from late 2006:
“”He said hello to everyone and kissed me full on the lips. I was like, ‘Oh, that was odd.’ Then the picture was on the Internet and people thought I was going out with him. He’s brilliant and hilarious, but I wouldn’t say I wanted to get it on with him!”

ooooh laaaa la! :) Thanks
good point.
Libs need to see this, they will identify with Jack, have an identity crisis and that will weaken them..Go chloe!
You think Chuck was bad? The series finale of Life on Mars had a NASA guy say to the astronauts on Mars, 30 years in the future “President Obama wanted to greet you, but her father is ill in Chicago and she had to be by his side.”
Totally disgusting and sycophantic. If they had said “President Willow Palin is with her mom and dad in Alaska,” can you imagine how much outrage that would have caused?!
Ed
Chloe looked like she wasn’t even buying what she was selling.
Pray for America and the Tea Parties
I just rewatched it and she made some funny faces at the end. I don’t think she was buying it either.
P.S. Carlos Bernard (Tony) is also doing one of the PSA’s. So basically it was the three fan favorites (Jack, Tony and Chloe) plus one new cast member (Cherry Jones).
And seriously, if Rush was correct that the actors that did the PSAs are the ones who believe in Global Warming, then Janeane Garofalo would have done one. And James Morrison (Bill) is a big liberal too.
Yeah, but Casey gets his 2 cents in for Reagan, too.
Question: How in the heck could Tony Amaida kill the FBI director? I am baffled. If he is a double agent, he had plenty of other chances to screw the US up. Any ideas?
Darn, next week I have a meeting and my mac doesn't offer the software to watch it on-line. HELP
“Tony twist was a good one. He could still be evil or it is some kind of sandbag”
Yes, I can’t figure it out. I wonder if it isn’t really Tony, but some kind of clone? Tony did get killed before.
He is the one who spotted the gas being filled into the missiles. If he is a bad guy, why wouldn’t he just walk away?
Rush tried to make excuses for some of them today, but my view is that as an individual, they could say they wouldn’t do it and if it cost them a contract with ‘24’ so be it. Jack(Keifer - who no doubt agrees with it anyway), for one (and a few others) could have put it to them like that and I doubt they would have fired them... if they wanted ‘24’ to continue. For Fox to do this is unconscionable.
I highly doubt that Rush could be ‘forced’ into that position for any reason.
I'll go along with that. Some people just don't interview well. But she can act. It just depends on the part.
So what I'm saying is, Mary Lynn could have been more dramatic in her PSA if she wanted to, but instead she just read the words in that monotone you described.
Yeah, I thought about that after I'd posted. ;o)
Thank you very much :)
I still think "that dunce Chloe" is coming from Rush not the e-mails.
I don't think he did :) I could be wrong, but it seemed like if Tony really wanted to kill Larry, he could have shot him, stabbed him, strangled him, etc. Or he could have had his friend with the shotgun, who already shot Larry once, finish the job. But Tony chose to smother him--and with one hand!
