The number of illegal immigrants living in North Carolina has declined since 2005, according to a study released this morning by the Pew Hispanic Center.
The center says that North Carolina had about 350,000 illegal residents in 2008, compared with 375,000 in 2005. The study, which used U.S. Census data to estimate the number of illegal immigrants in each state, provides the first state-by-state snapshot since 2005.
Illegal immigrants make up 3.8 percent of the state's population, the study says. Of illegal residents, about 250,000 held jobs, making up 5.3 percent of the state's workforce.
A report from the Pew Hispanic Center in Washington, D.C., indicates that the number of illegal immigrants is decreasing.
The report says that after years of rapid growth, the nation's unauthorized immigrant population has stabilized.

be careful what you wish for.
from the article “Illegal immigrants make up 3.8 percent of the state’s population, the study says. Of illegal residents, about 250,000 held jobs, making up 5.3 percent of the state’s workforce.
Bottom line: 5.3 percent exceeds 3.8 percent, or in other words ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS HAVE A GREATER PARTICIPATION IN THE WORKFORCE THAN CITIZENS. (this is probably because illegals are of working age vs. retirement for citizens.)
Losing workers may not be the best plan.

How come they are able to count all the illegals in the state and even come up with a number for the ones that hold jobs, yet can’t get them deported, and can’t fine the companies that are hiring them illegally.

Probably propaganda because Americans are out of work. You will be told the number is down but I doubt by much if any.
The Raleigh paper is probably some leftist rag.

You can fax congress for free to stop illegal immigration.

Well, I’m not moved by this report. sPEW research doesn’t impress me.
These folks still talk about 11 million illegal immigrants inside our nation. I don’t take them seriously, other than to realize they lie.
After adjustments to the 2000 Census, the government stated there were about 8.9 million illegal immigrants in 2000. And that figure was based on the fact that around 1990, the illegals had just been transitioned to citizens via Reagan’s amnesty.
We accumulated 8.9 million in ten years, but sPEW and the government want us to believe that from 2000 to 2009, only 25% of that figure had been added. In the early 2000s, the flow from Mexico was greater than it had ever been. Just about everyone agreed that the numbers were staggering. In the face of this, the government along with sPEW still claims that we only have 11 million here now. Bull s—t!
None of these groups are honest with regard to numbers. If we grant an amnesty right now, we’ll see between 20 and 35 million illegals step forward to become citizens.
The implications of this are very troubling.

Alternate headline North Carolina catches a break I don't notice it in the development I live in. It appears as though a way for the Hispanic crowd to deal with the slow down in construction jobs is to move several more families into the same house.

Considering NC unemployment rate and the Medicaid and education costs illegal aliens impose, I am elated with their departure. I would love to the remainder depart, pronto.

NC unemployment is 10.5 percent. If illegal immigrants make up 5 percent of jobs and they were not available to take them from Americans, NC unemployment rate will be cut in half. Corporate greed for cheap labor and Dem desire for future voters can back to haunt Americans. Conclusion enemy to America is corporations and Dems.

I’ve been seeing a few of what I think may be illegals going west along I-10 with a lot of belongings with them. Sometimes there will be a small convey and maybe some even pulling another vehicle or trailer.

You say Pew is dishonest with the numbers. Maybe yes, Maybe no. But why should we believe your 20-25 million number either?
I wouldn't suggest you take the word of anyone. There are special interests on both sides of this issue. The government itself doesn't really know what the accurate figure is. It does it's best to come up with an accurate figure, but you and I both know it doesn't get all illegal aliens to respond to surveys. While rooting around just now for some information, I came across a report that stated only 63% of Californians responded to the 2000 Census forms. With a 37% non-responding situation among citizens alone, you can imagine what the figures are for illegals. I would urge you to get out there and dig up numbers yourself. What you'll wind up with is spotty information from various sources. You'll have to extrapolate a great deal. You won't be the only person doing so. Saying that, I note that it is harder than ever to get accurate information.
As late as last year, there were reports on the internet discussing the Census 2000 adjustment (for illegal alien estimates) that took place in 2001. That adjustment raised the government's take on how many illegal immigrants there were in the United States in 2000. The first figure the government came up with was 7 million. That was later revised upward to 8.7 million. Bear Stearns published an assessment in 2005 that stated there may have been 20 million illegal immigrants in country around that time frame. I honestly can't tell you precisely how many there are. What I can do is provide a range.
In 1986 Reagan signed a bill to grant amnesty to 1 million illegal immigrants. By 1990, 3.5 million illegal immigrants had taken advantage of that offer. That 3.5 million people had accumulated over the prior twenty years. As soon as it became clear that Citizenship was on the table for illegal immigrants, the numbers of illegal immigrants shot up. By 2000 at least 8.7 million illegal immigrants had crossed our borders in just ten years. And then Bush became President promising some form of amnesty (NOT an amnesty, LOL) and by all accounts the illegal border crossings just exploded. In the Arizona sector alone (about three years ago), they detained about 900,000 illegals in one nine month period. That extrapolates out to about 1.2 million for a full year. That was just one sector, but at the time it seemed to be the sector with the most significant numbers. Traditionally INS agents had stated they were only detaining somewhere between 10 and 25% of the illegals crossing our southern border. So how many were coming across. We're not really sure. Time Magazine pegged that number at 3.5 million per year. Even as an illegal immigrant detractor, I believe that number was grosely over the top. Still, who knows?
In this environment is is impossible for me to extrapolate that illegal immigration abated directly after the 2000 Census. With Bush favoring some form of naturalization for illegal immigrants, if anything the flow escalated dramatically. How dramatically? We don't know for sure. You simply cannot quantify it. If 8.7 million came across from 1990 to 2000, it would be absurd (IMO) to state that less came across from 2000 to 2008. We would most certainly have around 15 million by 2008, and more than likely much more. Even if the flow remained constant (as the 90s flow) 870,000 per year that relocated and stayed, that would mean that by 2008, another 6.96 million would have come into our nation. That would be 15.6 million people. Since the flow was known to be significantly higher than in the 90s right after Bush became President, I think it's likely we have at least 18 million based on these figures alone. It may be much higher. If two million came across every year since 2000, and some estimate much higher, we're talking about 16 million this decade alone. If it was only 1.5 million, that's still 12 million this decade alone.
Using the logic I have above, this accounts for anywhere from 15.6 to 24.7 million illegals being here. And if you throw in births, you're looking at a number considerably higher than that. How many children did 8.7 to 25 million people have over the last eight years? Were there one million, five million? Who knows?
There could very easily be 25 million illegal immigrants in the U.S. today. I have pegged the number at anywhere from 20 to 35 million. I don't believe the 8.7 million estimate in 2000 was accurate, and the number was certainly higher. They never over-estimate, so the number certainly wasn't lower than 8.7 million. It may have been 12 million for all we know. All I know, is that there are tens of millions of poor under-educated people here who have no business in our nation.
We have problems enough with an un-educated segment of our society. Adding to that, is dangerous. If electing a person like Obama doesn't make that clear, nothing will.
Hope this helps.
