MALINDI, Kenya With Somali pirates pointing an automatic rifle at a hostage American ship captain, U.S. Navy sharpshooters opened fire Sunday, killing the pirates and ending an extraordinary five-day standoff that marked the first seizure of a U.S. vessel by pirates on the high seas in at least two centuries.
Three pirates were killed, the Pentagon said. The captain, 53-year-old Richard Phillips of Underhill, Vt., was rescued unharmed and taken aboard a U.S. warship. A fourth pirate who'd surrendered earlier also was being detained and could face trial in the United States.

When interviewed at his mud hut, one of their neighbors said: "They were quiet, loving boys, who never caused trouble in the village. The downturn in the economy has stressed many families here. I'm sure they meant no harm."
I’m still getting over the 3 kill shots with only 3 bullets from a bobbing boat to perps in a bobbing boat, at night.
Here we go... Those brutish SEALS murdered innocent Somalis with empty guns. It was inevitable.
1. Who are they, real reporters or local stringers, like the Iraqis who work with Al Qaeda?
2. Always assume a gun is loaded, especially if it is aimed at a person. How would the SEALS know the bad guys were out of ammo, if indeed they were?
3. If all these poor wayward yoots wanted to do was save their lives, they could have done that very easily by surrendering. Indeed if they really were out of ammo, that was the only thing that would save their lives.
4. Criminals who are surrounded by the good guys with overwhelming firepower and who are out of fuel, food and ammo, have no right to demand to be let go free. And pointing a gun at a hostage in a threatening way in the face of all that, especially if it isn't loaded (which I don't believe) is just proof for the umpteenth time that criminals are really, really stupid people. About the the only group that can make criminals look smart are reporters like these clowns.
They were “untrained youth”- I wonder if they were pirate school dropouts?
The one they captured ought to be hanged from the yard arm.
Probably Madrassa dropouts, but I guess that's the same.
Dateline Kenya. Gosh, I bet it’s the whole troof that our mean military killed unarmed people in a lifeboat when all they were doing was trying to save the life of an American man they found floating in the water.
Where is the outcry?
1. Obama acted unilaterally in making the decision to go to war with Somalia.
2. He directed the military to Murder Somali teenage citizens who were negotiating in good faith for the release of their captive U.S. Merchant Captain.
3. The Somalis were not granted habeus Corpus.
4. Obama has made America less safe because now all of the Somali Pirates are saying they will kill Americans on sight.
5. Obama did not follow the path of the Europeans who have ((most of the time) successfully negotiated (Talked to the enemy)the release of other hijacked ships and crews.
6. Obama now has a captured Somali citizen who is being detained against our Constitution, the Geneva Convention and is most likely being severely interrogated. Has the military allowed the Red Cross in to verify this pirates status?
I don't think these 'poor poor dears' were the brightest lights in the chandelier.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Obama reconsiders the whole voucher issue- at least for Somalia “youth”.
Oh, we knew this was coming, didn’t we?
“Their little boat was surrounded,” Farah said by phone from Haradheere. “We couldn’t go to help them, and for that we are sorry.”
And, they didn’t have any ammo left.
Poor dears. They were murdered in cold blood. /s
God bless the SEALs and their compassion for that dog. ;-)
Somebody cue Ted Knight: "Ha, ha, ha"
As Barretta always said, “Don’t do the crime if you can’t do the time.”
And that’s the name of that story.
LOL!
