Holder may file charges
Politico ^ | 4/13/09 | NIA-MALIKA HENDERSON

The Justice Department could bring charges against a Somali pirate captured in a hostage standoff in the high seas...

A spokesman said that prosecutors are reviewing "evidence and things" according to the Associated Press. By law, prosecutors do have authority to bring charges when a crime is committed against a U.S. citizen or vessel.

President Obama said that "we must continue to work with our partners to prevent future attacks, be prepared to interdict acts of piracy and ensure that those who committ acts of piracy are held accountable for their crimes."

Let’s see, what’s the over/under on the date of the next 9/11?

2 years, 100K plus killed. The next 9/11 attack will be nuclear.

Please read the posts from last night. Bozo did NOT order the shoot. The Navy has standing orders that in a hostage situation they can shoot if they think the hostage’s life is in danger, the Captain of the Bainbridge used the eminent danger order when the snipers on board the Bainbridge saw one of the pirates holding a gun on the hostage, I am sure they were holding guns on him all the time, and the Brainbridge Captain gave the go ahead to shoot. Bozo would never have sanctioned the shooting and I bet he was pissed, but after the fact he could do nothing but try and take the credit for it. The Navy Captain dropped a dime on him yesterday during an interview but of course the MSM is spinning it that Bozo acted “presidential” in saving the hostage, total BS.

I understand it was Marine Snipers who shot the pirates, 3 snipers, 3 one shot kills. Can’t do any better than that.

Too bad the SEALS didn’t take out this scum-bag, too, and save Holder the trouble of making such a “tough decision”.

Indeed. I'm now waiting for the Usual Suspects to form committees to protest the pirate's prosecution and some legal bottom-feeders line up to defend him.

Too bad, really, he would have made a nice decoration, haning from the yardarm as the ship came into port.

It's the same old Leftist world-vision - terrorists, etc. are not military targets, just legal problems to be ajudicated in court.

Agreed.

This is the most idiotic thing Holder has done so far. Apparently he is so out of touch that he missed Pirates of the Caribbean. Even a 4-year old knows that there is no need for a trial before executing pirates.

Why do I get the impression that we are about to grandstand this pirate kid like what the Vietcong did to downed US airmen?

Its not right in this case, there is a humanitarian factor here, not an act of revenge.

And yes there are laws broken but regardless is the fact that he is technically a juvenile and should be treated as such, more facts will emerge with the captains view on this. If it was shown that this pirate is without doubt guilty of felonius acts then his incarceration starts now, but to parade him around is almost no different then the somalis that drug our troops through the streets.

We are above savages, we need to act as such.

Torture him until he identifies the leaders. Kill the leaders. Dump him back in Somalia.

Maybe US citizenship to him, his family, and his buddies? Crazier things have happened re immigrants and illegal aliens from countries hostile to us.

Now we'll find the pirate is "a minor" and can only be held until he turns 21. : (

According to this:

Somali media were identifying the pirate as 16-year-old Mohamed Abdi, according to the Somali Justice Advocacy Center in St. Paul, Minn. But a Justice Department official told FOX News that authorities have been unable to nail down exactly how old the pirate is as other reports indicated he is as young as 14.

Take the pirate up in a helicopter and drop him in the town square at EYL (pirate village) from 1,000 feet.

That round spot in the middle of the pirate village looks like a good aiming point.

Too bad they didn’t give the pirate a fair chance to run for it.
