At a gun show, I don’t think you have to give your information.
“”At a gun show, I dont think you have to give your information.””””
That is incorrect. You might find the occasional private seller, but the guys at the tables are almost always FFL dealers so you have to fill out all the paperwork right there.
The “gun show loophole” is an urban myth perpetuated by slimy politicians to an ignorant public.
Ah, the Gun Show Loophole!
In some states (but definitely not all) a private sale from one person to another is not regulated nor are records kept. So if someone wants to sell a shotgun that person may simply hand you the gun and collect your cash. The venue is not important, but it is sometimes convenient to do it at a gun show where a buyer is easy to find. This is the Gun Show Loophole, private sales between individuals without the assistance of government.
Some states regulate such private sales, with some sort of ID and information transfer, and some don’t, so check where you are before you buy a gun from a private individual, especially at a gun show.
You used to be able to find guns for sale in the big classified ad book here, but they voluntarily dropped it years ago. I don’t know what rules Craigslist has, but you can’t advertise firearms on Ebay.
State/local rules apply at gun shows. (Despite the so-called scary "Gun Show Loophole".)
Here in Indiana - you still have to fill out your 4473 and have a NICS check if you buy from a dealer...even at a gun show.
If you buy from a private individual (be it at a gun show or in your garage) you do not have to fill out paperwork or have a NICS check.
Of course you do.-the brady bill
The same rule apply at gun shows as apply at the local gun dealer's. The only folks that do not have to wait on a background check are those that have either a concealed carry permit(prior check) or have a background check done prior to the show in anticipation of making a purchase.
You can believe that all of the shows are being monitored closely so smile every time you look up!
Not true. If you buy from a licensed dealer you must fill out the paperwork. In some states it is still possible to buy from a private party - even at a gunshow - without going through the hoops. THAT is the celebrated “gunshow loophole” we keep hearing about. If gun banners get their way it will make transfers between family members illegal unless the paperwork is done and registered.
It's no different at a gun show than it is anywhere else. You still need to go through NICS check when buying for any dealer. The only time you don't have to go through NICS under federal law (state law varies) is when you buy from a private seller.
DON’T fall for liberal lies! There is no “gun show loophole”. A private individual may occasionally sell some of his own guns to another resident of the same state with no 4473 or background check. This is the case whether at a gun show or in his garage. A licensed FFL (dealer) must do the 4473 and background check, whether at a gun show or in his store. There is no “gun show loophole” (had to say it again).
Now your state may impose additional restrictions. These are the federal rules and are the minimum. Kommy Kalifornia, for example, doesn’t “allow” private transfers.
The only time you do not do a background check is when no dealer is involved; when one non-dealer sells to another non-dealer. This CAN happen when people meet at a gun show. Even then there are few people that would sell to someone covered in prison or gang “tats” or not ask for ID or a receipt from someone they thought questionable...
“At a gun show, I don’t think you have to give your information.”
If you buy from a FFL dealer you have to fill out the paperwork, if you buy from an individual that are selling their personal guns you don’t.
You are ignorant of the circumstances then.........
You DO have to give info if you buy from a dealer...( A FFL holder..)
You DON'T have to give or exchange info with a private party...At least in the states that I am aware of......
That may vary from state to state. I have purchased a few guns at PA gun shows and had to fill out the standard paperwork for the NICS criminal background check, show ID, etc.
