EDITORIAL: 'We want them registered'--Democrats are going after guns
The Washington Times ^ | April 13, 2009 | Editorial

Posted on 04/13/2009 5:14:23 AM PDT by Scanian

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, California Democrat, announced last week that she wants to register guns. Her next move will be to try to confiscate them.

The speaker picked a television show with a viewership of 4.6 million to float the Democrats' coming gun-control push. Questioned on ABC's "Good Morning America" about the prospect of new gun-control laws now that "it's a Democratic president, a Democratic House," she responded, "We don't want to take their guns away. We want them registered."

Politicians and bureaucrats routinely claim that registration helps solve crimes. If a registered gun is used in a crime and left at the crime scene, registration supposedly lets the police trace the gun back to the criminal. Though this turn of events might work on fictional TV crime shows, it virtually never occurs in real life. Criminals' guns are rarely left at crime scenes. When guns are left behind, it usually is because a crook has been seriously injured or killed and the police are poised to catch him anyway.

The few guns left at crime scenes rarely - if ever - are registered to the perpetrator. If they are registered at all, it is to someone else, whose piece was stolen. Despite what Mrs. Pelosi might think, those who use guns to commit major crimes such as robbing and killing are unlikely to respect her request to file paperwork so the government can catalog the tools of their trade.

Numerous examples disprove gun-control propaganda. Hawaii has had licensing and registration of guns for about 50 years.

After that I just didn't have the heart to replace them. You know?

At today's prices, I don't blame you. ;-)

Like if you knew a old right wing guy, who was dying, he could buy you guns, and like, ‘will’ them to you. On account of him having ‘borrowed’ money from you.

Dead men leave no trail. Just saying.

I received this in an email this past week. Those of you who study this issue might want to review this and tell us whether these are hard facts. If so, we have a lot to worry about in regard to Nancy Pelosi’s agenda regarding the eventual confiscation of firearms from law abiding citizens in the US. Make no mistake about it. Registration is the first step..

...”A LITTLE GUN HISTORY

Most importantly note the difference between Australia and Switzerland at the bottom of this.

In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control.

From 1929 to 1953, about 20 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.-——

In 1911, Turkey established gun control.

From 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians, unable to defend
themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.——

Germany established gun control in 1938

From 1939 to 1945, a total of 13 million Jews and others who were unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated.-——

China established gun control in 1935.

From 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated-——

Guatemala established gun control in 1964.

From 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.——

Uganda established gun control in 1970.

From 1971 to 1979, 300,000 Christians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.——

Cambodia established gun control in 1956.

From 1975 to 1977, one million educated people, unable to
defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.——

Defenseless people rounded up and exterminated in the 20th Century because of gun control: 56 million.-——

It has now been 12 months since gun owners in Australia were forced by new law to surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed by their own Government, a program costing Australia taxpayers more than $500
million dollars. The first year results are now in:

1: Australia-wide, homicides are up 3.2 percent.
2: Australia-wide, assaults are up 8.6 percent..
3: Australia-wide, armed robberies are up 44 percent (yes, 44 percent)
In the state of Victoria alone, homicides with firearms are now up
300 percent.Note that while the law-abiding citizens turned them in, the criminals did
not, and criminals still possess their guns! While figures over the previous
25 years showed a steady decrease in armed robbery with firearms, this has
changed drastically upward in the past 12 months, since criminals now are
guaranteed that their prey is unarmed.

There has also been a dramatic increase in break-ins and assaults of the
ELDERLY. Australian politicians are at a loss to explain how public safety as
decreased, after such monumental effort, and expense was expended in
successfully ridding Australian society of guns. The Australian experience and the
other historical facts above prove it.

You won’t see this data on the US evening news, or hear politicians disseminating this information. Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws adversely affect only the law-abiding
citizens. Take note my fellow Americans, before it’s too late! The next time someone talks in favor of gun control, please remind them of this history lesson. With guns, we are ‘citizens’. Without them, we’re ‘subjects’.

During WWII the Japanese decided not to invade America because they knew most Americans were ARMED! If you value your freedom, please spread this anti-gun control message to all of your friends. The purpose of fighting is
to win. There is no possible victory in defense.

The sword is more important than the shield, and skill is more important than either. The final weapon is the brain. All else is supplemental.

SWITZERLAND ISSUES EVERY HOUSEHOLD A GUN!

SWITZERLAND’S GOVERNMENT TRAINS EVERY ADULT THEY ISSUE A RIFLE.

SWITZERLAND HAS THE LOWEST GUN RELATED CRIME RATE OF ANY CIVILIZED COUNTRY IN THE WORLD!!! IT’S A NO BRAINER! DON’T LET OUR GOVERNMENT WASTE MILLIONS OF OUR TAXDOLLARS IN AN EFFORT TO MAKE ALL LAW ABIDING CITIZENS AN EASY TARGET.

I’m a firm believer of the 2nd Amendment! If you are too, please forward”...

What guns? I never had one or would I own any of those dangerous things.

I use to have some... but tragically I forgot to keep them oiled and rust and termites reduced them to dust. All gun, vacuumed up and thrown away.

At a gun show, I don’t think you have to give your information.

It's no different at a gun show than it is anywhere else. You still need to go through NICS check when buying for any dealer. The only time you don't have to go through NICS under federal law (state law varies) is when you buy from a private seller.

No, it isn’t registration. At least where we live, the way I understand it is the dealer will check for any felonies, etc. After that, the info is destroyed.

Gun shops do not want registration either...they have no reason to keep it.

Yeah, right. Didn't they do that in California with the SKS rifle? "We just want to know where they are." Then, ops guess what...They're now illegal. Turn them in or you'll be an instant felon.

BINGO!!! That is the true agenda of the socialists/liberals/communists in control of our government!

DON’T fall for liberal lies! There is no “gun show loophole”. A private individual may occasionally sell some of his own guns to another resident of the same state with no 4473 or background check. This is the case whether at a gun show or in his garage. A licensed FFL (dealer) must do the 4473 and background check, whether at a gun show or in his store. There is no “gun show loophole” (had to say it again).

Now your state may impose additional restrictions. These are the federal rules and are the minimum. Kommy Kalifornia, for example, doesn’t “allow” private transfers.

No record of a private sale is necessary, as far as I know, in any state. Yep, sold all mine to some guy with a beard wearing a camo hat.Fidel Castro's doing better? I thought he died.

“Remember the movie “Red Dawn”

A classic, should be playing 7x24 during the Obamachev admin.

Quite frankly, the state has all the info it needs to confiscate guns of licensed owners. The hard part is coming and getting them. ATF will have to go door to door, making Falujah look like a day at the beach.

Buying guns online is quite easy. You purchase the gun from an online seller and have it shipped to the FFL of your choice (must be in your home state). You will pay the seller for the gun, shipping, and sometimes tax if they are in your state. You only pay the local FFL a transfer fee, determined by each FFL, to complete the transaction (which basically involves filling out form 4494 and being cleared to receive the gun). Transfer fees range from $10 to $100 so shop around. I'm lucky...my guy only charges $15.

OK, and will journalists be lining up to register exercise of their 1stA rights? Right, didn’t think so. Why then would any rational mind think gun owners will? Its not going to happen just as it didn’t in Canada. In fact the stage is being set for a civil war.

In fact the stage is being set for a civil war.

I'm almost getting the idea that the left is pushing us toward CW ON PURPOSE. Historically, leftists LOVE to have any excuse to kill their political opponents.

For some reason, they probably think it'll just be a bunch of Wacos and Ruby Ridges where their gov't proxies do the killing, with impunity to those who sent them.

Bowman doctrine is to go after those who sent them.
