Pirates vow revenge after rescue mission

SOMALI pirates have threatened revenge after two separate hostage-rescue raids by foreign forces killed at least five comrades, raising fears of future bloodshed on the high seas. The latest raid by US forces this morning saved American hostage Capt Richard Phillips. Three pirates were killed and one was taken captive, the US Navy said.

That rescue mission and one by France last week have upped the stakes in shipping lanes off the anarchic Horn of Africa nation where pirate gangs have defied foreign naval patrols.

"The French and the Americans will regret starting this killing. We do not kill, but take only ransom. We shall do something to anyone we see as French or American from now," Hussein, a pirate, told Reuters by satellite phone.

"We cannot know how or whether our friends on the lifeboat died, but this will not stop us from hijacking," he said.

Sea gangs generally treat their captives well, hoping to fetch top dollar in ransoms. The worst violence has been an occasional beating.

“Sea gangs generally treat their captives well, hoping to fetch top dollar in ransoms.”

Well, then, I guess it’s ok.

They deserve the same that Julius Caesar gave to the Cilician pirates of Pharmakussa.

I hope this doesn’t dampen enthusiasm for “Speak Like a Pirate Day”!

[1] I’m a big fan of disproportionate preemptive response. And why let the little bastards get in RPG, or any other kind of range?

[2] Pour les autres. But then again, I’d call down a massive airstrike, including follow ups with napalm and chain guns, and wipe out their home areas. Then of it as an update on ‘Caesar and the Pirates’

[3] And, historically speaking, the pirates of the 18th and 19th centuries were done in with a lot more firepower and naval resources than Q ships. And it worked.

That’s a good idea. Send a bunch of ships over there with blackhawks on board then taunt the hell out of the pussies and when they try to board the ships blast them and declare it was self defense. See who runs out of people first.

Oh, so we should just roll over and let them kidnap people and hold them for ransom, then? After all, it’s just a “business model” — at least, that’s how I heard someone describe it last week.

Send Zero and Hitlery to smooth their ruffled feathers. He can bow and she can giggle cackle.

There. Fixed it.

I saw this and had to laugh.

These guys appear to have absolutely no idea what they have done by attacking a US vessel and kidnapping a US national. At the time this nation was founded, our President was confronted with a very similar situation off the coast of Africa. I have no doubt this one will end in similar fashion.

"We shall do something to anyone we see as French or American from now"

I have to say...as a general rule of thumb, this declaring war on America business has been a very bad policy for its adherents.

OH Good, now they are officially terrorists committing terrorist acts,

where before they were merely terrorists committing non-violent piracy using AK 47's for dramatic effect
