President Barack Obama says the captain who survived capture by Somali pirates has courage that is “a model for all Americans.”

Obama says he’s pleased that Capt. Richard Phillips has been rescued and is on board a Navy ship. Obama says Phillips’ safety was his main concern after being held hostage aboard a lifeboat.

Obama says he is proud of the U.S. military and other agencies that worked to free Phillips. The president says the United States needs help from other countries to deal with the threat of piracy and to hold pirates accountable.

“If the seal team could rescue the capt. now why did it take so long?” My guess is that if the FBI hadn’t been there perhaps it would have ended sooner.

Is there a “pirate hotline”?

There must be. MSM seems to have it.

Strange. Do I just call somebody in “pirate town” and ask to speak to the “pirate-in-charge”?

Now they need to hang their corpses off the dingy and tow it into harbor as notice.

WHAT ARE YOU SMOKING?

Obama did nothing other than assume the captain could not escape a second time.

Obama dumped this as a mere police matter and went about picking a dog and multitasking flittering about on Air Force One.

Obama DID NOTHING.

The navy succeeded DESPITE obama because the captain gave them an opening to get clear so the pirates could be shot.

The “do it” from Obama was ASSUMING only a left wing negotiator solution would be successful instead of the current demonstrated UTTER FAILURE.

Obama is a complete failure.

The US only became safe in the world whem the military was killing the enemy. Obama seeks to coddle them and offer them a US lawyer and bail and a path to US citizenship.

The only thing obama did was vote present is an international crisis.

The first family attended St. John’s Church for their first public worship service since the inauguration.

~~~
And that was a high level, much researched and deliberated decision by top aides because it had to be a ‘safe’ choice with 0’s background and history .. had to ‘look’ good and pass their muster criteria, whatever that was.
They also researched the background of the pastor, who they knew would also be scrutinized and feverishly researched by the press.
So, this was the safe choice .. typically where the Bushes attended. Duh.
http://www.boston.com/news/nation/washington/articles/2009/04/11/obama_heads_to_church_for_easter_sunday/
But it was all cloaked in such over the top secrecy .. ludicrously so, stupidly so, until today.
Just your average reverent American Christian family, choosing and going to worship God at church for the FIRST time, since moving into 1600 Penn, for Easter services ............../sarc
When your past is this dark and suspect and you’re suspicious and generally hostile to traditional values, and hyper aware of your critics, every single trivial and seemingly innocent decision is overly scrutinized, calculated and staged for press value and polls.
These people are truly twisted.
No. I think his reticence to comment was just a way to cover himself depending on how things turned out. Now he can claim credit for his approach.
I don't know how you define right away, but IMO five days were too long.
The Seals planned it to last that long. The hijackers would make mistakes from lack of sleep and nerves.
You make up a phony strawman and the proceed to dismantle it. I expect any such operation to be well planned with all of the necessary resources on scene.
I think the planners estimated how long it would take for the lifeboat to get close to the Somali coast and used some of that time for tactical planning and possible a couple of practice training runs.
The FBI has counterterrorism offices all around the world. And I imagine they work out of Nairobi considering its proximity to Somali. But you would not have SEALs based on foreign territory, and there are no Navy bases close-by that I know of.
You are making the assumption that Captain Philips second escape attempt was planned and that we would not continue to negotiate.
I am not assuming the former, and from posted articles I have seen, we cut off negotitations. I also have seen that SEALs were in fact involved in the rescue. You just don't have SEALs on every ship in the Navy. The nearest ones would have been in Iraq, and they could have done a practice drill or two before leaving.
Please correct me if I am wrong, but Obama never came out and addressed the Pirate incident, did he?
He didn’t say how unacceptable it was and he was calling upon the “pirates” to immediately release the captain, did he?
