Fox just interviewed off screen a former SEAL regarding why the Somali pirates are being allowed to take the kidnapped US merchant captain to Somalia. In his words, 'this is not an operational issue.' In other words, Obama is ordering that no action be taken until he can get permission from the 'international community.' The SEAL noted that they have been training for just this situation since 1981.
Meanwhile, the French rescue their people.
I’m probably pretty cynical, but I wonder if anyone else has wondered about kickbacks in the overall ransom schemes. Seems like the pirates have had it awfully easy in securing so much money.
You don’t know Petraeus then ... or you’re working to help the marginalizing.
0bama is committing TREASON.
He’s a Benedict Arnold. He’s a Traitor to the USofA!
Put aside the speculation ... my good friend who is a former Seal Team one says that they practiced for this very scenario
with exactly this type of boat MANY times. He says the taking this boat is extremely easy with the tactics they use
I suggest you take a look at my posts and my history here at FreeRepublic. Perhaps then you wouldn't be spouting off that school-girl crap.
“the pirates, aka Jihadis, are ROWING towards the shore. ROWING.”
We’ve become a pathetic, ridiculed nation in three short months.
I’ve wondered if there’s any entity that can over-ride Hussein’s trashing of the Constitution and destruction of liberty. Mark Levin said there isn’t — it’s handled through the election process. You’d think SCOTUS could step in and control a traitor.
The hostage put himself in this place when he offered himself in return for the release of his crew. He is not technically a hostage because he is not being held against his will.
The Navy should capture the life boat and kill the pirates while preserving the life of the American, if possible.
“Geithner and 0bama are damaged goods”
That would make a pithy sign.
However, the thousands of lives at risk, in the future, if America comes off looking weak, are far, far more important.
That's exactly the point. The President is paid to decide issues on the basis of what is the best for the long term interests of the United States, not what is the best for one person, the hostage.
Thus, is it more important for the long term interest of the US that:
(a) the hostage is released unharmed; or
(b) that the pirates are removed, quickly, regardless of what happens to the hostage.
In the world of 24-hour cable news, Oprah and personalization of issues, the main stream media makes (a) the most important. I believe (b) is the correct answer, however. It may be cruel to the hostage and his family, but over time it meets our national interests and will deter future captives from being taken.

Soon to represent Somalia in the next Olympics as the “Somalian Rowing Team”.
I’m glad you posted this.
I would have put “sleep medicine” in the food and water supplies.
Best idea I’ve heard is to have SEALs lash the tub to the deck of a sub and pull it under. Our guys could get the captain on a rebreather in short order.
Pirates? Not so quick.
“I wonder of the possibility of Obama being blackmailed through these pirates, who could be connected to others in Kenya who have access to his Kenyan birth records.”
Interesting theory, and maybe not too far off. It’s such a “coincidence” that the pirates are rowing to Hussein’s homeland. Of all the ports in the world — Kenya? C’mon.
Yesterday on FNC I heard an ex-military guy give the following excellent description of BO, “He’s the dog that caught the firetruck.”
Yeah the Maersk Alabama is an American flagged ship. It may be Danish owned but they tend to carry the flags of their home port.
In fact one of the pics if seen of it docked at Mombasa shows an American flag.

No SEAL mini sub holds a dozen.
Happy to see the “Can’t do’s” are well represented on FR again this morning.
“ANYONE that is HYPHENATED has DUAL LOYALTIES!!”
Yes. I wish this political correctness would come to an end. After several years working in Human Resources, I’ve seen more P.C. B.S than anyone should see in a lifetime. Retired now, and still recovering from the trauma. (Our workforce was primarily SEIU, and my boss wasn’t happy when I referred to them as “organized crime” in a staff meeting.)
Youy impugned the character of Gen. Petraeus, that was all I needed to expose you as either unthinking or careful agitprop. Keep it up and we’ll figure it out.
