Captives, What Captives?
Commentarymagazine.com ^ | April 10, 2009 | Abe Greenwald

Four Americans are now being held captive by foreign governments or non-state actors: two journalists in North Korea, one journalist in Iran, and one ship captain off the coast of Somalia.

Has anyone heard from the president about these incidents?

In regard to North Korea and Iran, Barack Obama is too dug-in to a capitulationist stance to make a peep. While free and safe journalists praise Obama for “listening” to autocrats and fanatics, their less fortunate colleagues have been listening in vain for a word from the American president. Tragic as that is, it does at least free up Obama to speak forcefully about the Somali pirates now holding the brave and selfless Capt. Richard Phillips. After all, we can’t possibly have an interest in engaging these stateless thugs. So what message has Obama sent?

“So far President Barack Obama’s role in the U.S. response to an American sea captain’s kidnapping by Somali pirates has been careful - and quiet,” writes the Associated Press’ Liz Sidoti. “The new commander in chief has been kept abreast of negotiations over the captain’s release, but advisers say Obama has delegated the heavy lifting to high-level administration officials and his military commanders. The president himself has yet to speak publicly about the incident near the Horn of Africa. He brushed off a reporter’s question Thursday. Instead he has let his top surrogates do the talking

The media covering up for the president at the expense of American lives. Get used to it, it’s only just begun.

I think if ACORN organized some rallies, put up some placards and told the media for this to stop, that the pirates would get the idea, and go back to robbing just land roads on the mainland of Africa.

in other words, tucked tail and useless.

He may be letting his top surrogates do the talking ,but you can bet he has instructed them. It;s the old plan for staying publicly away so he can plausibly deny responsibility.

Now, if I were a President, I’d send the SEALs in. This wuss President will probably find him “sacrificed for the ideals of America” or whatever horse-sh#t he comes up with.

Obama is living up to every weakness I expected from him. Let’s see...

America held hostage, day . . .

Now where have I heard that before? During the administration of the worst ever President (until now), from which major political party?

Santayana was right - we forgot the history of Jimmy Carter, and now we're going to repeat it.

OK, pirates, here’s the deal from Present Obama. Don’t mess with ships with our people on them and we won’t mess with you.

What would anybody expect from the child president of the USA? He’s so deep into appeasing terrorists, crashing his face in the floor bowing left and right -mostly left- and flying on vacation everywhere.

0bama’s childish attitude of defaming his own country will never earn him anything but contempt from the world leaders. His unilateral 80’s retro-Euro-politics of unilateral nuke disarmament will earn him more Iranian and North Korean nukes and rockets.

We’re in trouble because American ignorant children voted one of their own in the Oval Office. We’ll pay an incalculable price for surrendering our sovereignty; embolden our enemies and allowing the G-19 to control the economy of the G-1.

The ONLY thing 0 will ever do is “bow” to any terrorist that wants a piece of his or the American peoples behind. He will ,however, send his minions after any American citizen that has the gall to speak out against him while he keeps appointing and annointing lobbyists, criminals, and tax cheats to his administration.

And more captives by the hour, another boat pirated with an American crew. A tugboat.

It would be a gift of submission if Obama allowed them to get away with killing the captain of the ship. More submissive then bowing to a Saud - and it cuts the legs out from under anyone who's outraged about pirates. From the halls of Tripoli...

Me? I'm outraged.

You're right.

And the lessons learned? That we're powerless as citizens to defend ourselves against the full power of a government. The thugs or the world have learned too - they've learned they're more powerful then they ever imagined.

The United States has - by it's existence - put a damper on the worst dictator's ambitions. Traditionally the world's goons have feared the United States might "step in". No worries now - Obama's too busy investigating conservative citizens who don't bow to him...

I fear they're going to let the captain die - it teachers us how powerless we are as a country - and emboldens the others...
