NOW, ABOUT THOSE WILDFIRES......
First off, thanks to everyone for your thoughts and prayers. There are some in this part of the country that are sure going to need those.
We did have a series of wildfires in our own backyard, so the speak on Thursday. The fires were cnetered in a four square mile area just outside of our city limits.(Comanche)
We did lose power for a time. Our Digital TV modem rebooted a couple of times. They were able to get the fires under control. There were still a few hot spots flaring up but they seem to have things under control.
The worst of the fires here in our area however, was around Velma and Loco. The Emergency Alert System was used by the sheriff's office to evacuate those two communities. 16 homes and 5 businesses were destroyed in the wildfires in those areas. One firefighter had to be taken to Duncan Regional Hospital for exhaustion.
The EAS was also used to evacuate other places in Oklahoma, including around Marietta, between Blancahrd and Lindsay and around Midwest City. I'm sure many of you might have seen the images on the news from some of those places.
A state of emergeny was declared in some of those counties which qualifies them for disaster relief. Obviously these fires have really taken a toll emotionally and otherwise on those affected.
There were also wildfires in North Texas as well. Bellvue and parts of Electra were also evacuated.
In all several thousand acres were burned as a result of these wildfires.
There is rain in the forecast for tonight and tomorrow. Everyone has their fingers crossed.
