I’ve never seen anything quite like it. A network correspondent presuming to school a pundit in PC-speak . . .

It happened on today’s Morning Joe. Discussing Pres. Obama’s announced plans to address the immigration issue, Andrea Mitchell claimed that “there didn’t seem to be as much anger about immigration.” Retorted Pat Buchanan: “just you wait and see!”

When Buchanan went on to make the point that there is very high unemployment among black and Hispanic American citizens, and that “illegal aliens” are taking their jobs, Mitchell jumped in to reprimand him:

I expect another uprising from the citizens, who oppose this by 70% - 80%. But only a very few members of Congress were defeated because of this in 2006 and 2008, so the protests might ignored this time.

...when I am exposed to TV news these days I can only say that it is absolutely freakish and unlike anything that I remember before I tuned out.

Having three news channels, each with twenty-four hours to fill in a slow news day, produces such freakishness.

There was a comedy movie back in 1976 called "Tunnel Vision" showing a future world where television went off in a wild direction, as people quit their jobs to stay home and watch. The world of 2009 cable television is not too far off from what that movie predicted!

Andrea, baby, to quote a very respected person (his initials are BHO) words mean things.

"Illegal Alien" and "Alien" are not synonymous. "Immigrant" is assumed by most informed people to be legal; "Illegal immigrant", on the other hand is not legal. Not a profound, but a clear distinction. If you can't grasp the difference, what are you doing in a position to mislead and obfuscate the public?
