The Observer ("Independent Daily of the University of Notre Dame and Saint Mary's College in South Bend") has been running news articles, opinions and letters on the upcoming May 17 Commencement protest almost every day.

It's becoming the focus of many people's sense of crisis, thir more-than-dismay at the way this country is headed, extending beyond "Commencement" and beyond "Catholic."

The two main "action" websites for the May 17 protest are STOP OBAMA and The P.O.P.E. Project ("Prevent Obama from Proclaiming Evil").

It's coming.

And it's going to be big.

And, the media will dutifully call it a “circus” whereas the demonstrations in front of the homes of AIG execs (scaring the heck out of children) was called a demonstration.

Ya he's the radical. It seems to me that when Person X is marginally pro-infanticide and Person Y is radically anti-infanticide, that Person X is the radical, not person Y.

It's like being marginally pro-child molestation vs. being radically anti-cookie dough ice cream.

Nevermind that Obama was more than marginally pro-infanticide.

I can see it now — they will declare that the President will not be able to attend due to the security threats.

Notre Dame and the President will be off the hook as the media and the liberal pundits declare it a “travesty” — whatever.

As long as BO does not step foot on that sacred ground — works for me.

This is horrible that Obama is speaking at ND. This so called FR of the Catholic faith is a idol worshiper, not a Christian in any manner.

'We will make this a circus'

Yeah, that will be effective. Wonder why nobody wants "Operation Rescue" around any more?

It would help to have pro-life professors give lectures on pro-life ethical philosophy and the Catholic identity and mission of Notre Dame as a Catholic university. Someone with a background in philosophy, political philosophy, law, or political science especially. They could take this to a defining moment on the topics. I hope some of the magazines like National Review, First Things, The New Oxford Review, Inside the Vatican, and The Latin Mass devote cover stories to the scandal, featuring alumni, students, and pro-life professors. Perhaps Cardinal Stafford and Bishops Dolan and Chaput could expand their statements into larger articles, also mentioning Ex Corde Ecclesiae and Fides et Ratio. It would be good to hear from the Pope himself. No need to let Obama steal the show. It would be a GREAT time for the announcement of a few excommunications thrown down - Pelosi, Kerry, the entire Kennedy family of pro-abortion suck-up liberals.

It would be great to see Prof. Charles Rice get a cover article on the topic for, say, National Review. Open up this debate and go on offense with the A team.

"Number one is, there will be very few if any Catholic universities that commit this type of treachery in the near future," he said. "Number two is that we will so politically tar Obama with the blood of the babies that he has condemned to die, that in 2012 he will not be able to seduce the Catholic and the evangelical vote like he was able to in 2008."

From AP:

10 Holy Cross priests object to Obama invite

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — Ten priests in the Roman Catholic order that helps run the University of Notre Dame want the school to reconsider having President Barack Obama deliver this year's commencement address.

Notre Dame's invitation to Obama has drawn outrage from some Catholics because his stances on abortion and stem cell research are at odds with church teaching.

Ten members of the Congregation of the Holy Cross signed an open letter published Wednesday in the campus newspaper.

They ask Notre Dame's president — the Rev. John Jenkins, also a Holy Cross priest — and the university's board of fellows to reconsider having Obama speak at the May commencement and receive an honorary degree.

If all of the Catholic Bishops and Cardinals raised their united opposition to Obama’s visit to Notre Dame, the invitation to Obama would be recinded immediately. 24 bishops and Cardinals have raised their objections but this is only a small minority of the church leaders in our County.

Can a reasonable person only conclude that the other Bishops and Cardinals are giving their tacit support to abortion?

I won't criticize Terry for this. It's time to stop focusing on the faults of those who are on our side but who use different tactics than we do.

The enemy is Obama. Let's focus on him.
