NEW YORK (AP) -- It sounds crazy: Just a week after the White House scolded Chrysler LLC for relying too much on gas guzzlers, the company is heading to a marquee auto show Wednesday to unveil a new SUV. OK why did Chrysler develop this SUV after being scolded by the Dark Lord?

It takes years for a car to go from a marketing idea to a physical product.
This SUV has been in the works for years.
What are they supposed to do? Throw their investment in the toilet, like the government does?

Doesn’t sound crazy at all. What sounds crazy is constantly making hybrid econoboxes that hardly anyone wants.

I sure hope somebody keeps the Jeep line alive after Chrysler goes under. I also hope somebody keeps the Chevy truck line afloat also. I’ve go an ‘07 Silverado, a ‘76 CJ5 and a ‘94 Cherokee.

You can’t get three bulky child-safety seats in a Toyota Camry. Perhaps BO will mandate that no family can have more than two children.
The car companies have been through this before during Carter’s abysmal administration, when they built small cars that no one wanted. Insanity is repeating the same mistakes and expecting a different result.

No AP! It’s not crazy for a private company to decide the type of product it sells. What is crazy is that the government is “scolding” private companies. And what is scary is that an increasing number of the population believes that this is within the govt’s purview.

Actually 20 mpg is pretty good for an SUV. Xterras and fancy 4Runners don’t get that.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee isn’t new. It is a staple of American culture and image. God forbid Big Brother makes America abandon the Jeep.

I own two Jeeps: A Liberty and a Grand Cherokee Loredo. Both get around 19 mpg...but neither have ever left me stranded despite snowy winters and muddy springs and autumns. I wouldn't be caught dead in a clown car (Smart Car) or small hybrid the gubmint wants me to drive because that's exactly how I would end up if I ever got in a collision with one of the heavy pickups and 18-wheelers the predominate the highways around my Va. hinterland.

I can’t believe this auto author just compared the GC gas mileage to a Toyota Camry.
Will he now compare Camry mileage to a Segway?

"It sounds crazy" This is supposed to be the opening sentence of a news article? This is nothing more than leftist editorializing under the guise of "reporting".
Agitprop, pure and simple.
