Prague - The anti-missile shield project would be unnecessary if Iran gave up its military nuclear programme, U.S. President Barack Obama said in his address in Prague today.
"If the Iranian threat is eliminated, we will have a stronger basis for security and the driving force for missile defence construction in Europe will be removed," Obama said.
However, he pointed out that Iran's nuclear and ballistic missile activity poses a real threat not just to the United States but to Iran's neighbours and to U.S. allies.
"The Czech Republic and Poland have been courageous in agreeing to host a defence against these missiles. As long as the threat from Iran persists, we will go forward," Obama said.
The United States wants to build a radar base in the Czech Republic and a base for ten interceptor missiles in Poland as elements of its missile defence shield in Europe.
In his major address, Obama presented "a clear choice" to Iran.
"We want Iran to take its rightful place in the community of nations, politically and economically. We will support Iran's right to peaceful nuclear energy with rigorous inspections," he said.
He said the other possibility for the Islamic republic to choose was "increased isolation, international pressure and a potential nuclear arms race in the region that will increase insecurity for all."
Apart from Iran, North Korea is considered a threat.
Earlier today, North Korea launched a long-range rocket over Japan. North Korean authorities claim that it was a satellite.
In reaction, Obama called on North Korea to stop all its nuclear programmes.
bttt
Iran will give up nothing.
They’ll say they’re giving us their nuclear program long enough for us to really drop the Missle Shield.
But they’ll never stop their nuclear program.
Can you say Neville Chamberlin?

Or maybe Quisling.
ALl they have to do is take a crooked UN inspector to some site that has ‘peaceful’ nuclear equipment, and you can bet your bottom dollar that that is all it takes to satisfy the marxist quisling.
The idiot showing the United States is officially a weakling ready to be taken advantage of. A lot of people in this world are going to miss the cowboy mentality before long.
Iran: No.
president UI: okey dokey. no shield anyway.
What a sellout sack of fetid steaming goat scat. This loser is our president. Can you imagine the ignorance that elected him?
Or how about Imbecile.
No shield period, unless they pay for it.
If I didn’t mistrust him so much, I’d think he was dumb as a box of rocks. However, since I figure he’s out to destroy this country, he probably knows what he’s doing.
uh uh uh ......
are Czeckoslovakia and Poland the prime targets of the mad mullahs?
mr president?........mr president?

It sounds very much like Obama is satisfied to allow Iran to be a nuclear power. His wishy-washy "let's all get along" answer shows no willingness to prevent a militant and dangerous nation like Iran the means to conduct nuclear war.
His "send a stern message" approach to North Korea shows a similar ignorance of the very dangerous threats these countries pose. He is being tested and played. And allies like Israel are being pushed to the only alternative - take unilateral action to end the threat. And how will Obama react when Israel attacks Iran? Will they get the "stern letter" approach or will Obama come to Iran's defense?
Some have asked whether those locations are optimal
for placing missile defense equipment if Iran is the
potential rogue missile source.... Ruskies do not buy
that but GWB went ahead....
