Advocates Want Halt on Immigration Raids to Ensure Accurate Census
U.S. Rep. William Clay says he'll ask the Obama administration to suspend immigration raids over the next year, so illegal immigrants don't worry that sharing accurate information with Census workers could somehow expose them to punishment.

Some lawmakers are calling anew for the U.S. to relax its immigration laws -- not to provide sanctuary to illegal immigrants, but to ensure statistical accuracy.
The calls come as the Census Bureau prepares to kick off the 2010 Census. Critics argue that unless the government is willing to relax immigration laws, millions of people -- afraid to their share their personal information -- will be left out of the count.
U.S. Rep. William Clay, D-Mo., who chairs a House oversight subcommittee on the Census, said he plans to ask the Obama administration to suspend immigration raids over the next year.
He wants the raids put on hold so illegal immigrants don't worry that sharing accurate information with Census workers could somehow expose them to punishment, even deportation.
"There are many people -- Hispanics, African-Americans, whites, Asians -- who have an irrational fear of government, who distrust government, who don't believe that if they give the federal government personal information, that that information is not going to be confidential," said Arturo Vargas, of the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials.
The kind of move Clay is proposing has been done before -- in 2000, and even earlier.
Rep. Silvestre Reyes, D-Texas, was working for the border patrol ahead of the 1990 Census when the orders came down to suspend some enforcement efforts.

The Census is a ‘head count’ period. Of all heads in the US, not just citizens. The post included history and USSC case cites.

Or, here’s an idea, we deport them... though not necessarily to their country of origin. In fact... I hear the Arabic world still has slaves, the government could just sell them there and gain SOME money from them. (Just because slavery isn’t allowed INSIDE the US, doesn’t mean we can’t profit from it, right?) [/sarc]
But, seriously, why can’t the laws be enforced? Because it would make illegal aliens cry? I think they’ve shown how much they respect the law already... as has Congress. (Can we deport Congress?)
Yeah, throw the Asian dad who spends all day working his ass off and all night scolding his kid about study habits and work ethic in the same boat as the thug still living with “moms”, throwing Corona Lite bottles all over my parking lot, and stealing cars for cash on the weekends.
Don’t play their language game of lumping everyone together as “immigrants”. There are actual *immigrants*, who tend to have jobs and bust their asses since they recognize the opportunities there are here, and there are *illegal aliens* who make no effort to learn english, expect to be given their “entitlements”, and don’t teach their kids not to grow up as criminals.
Unfortunately, congressional seats can be reapportioned based on the head count of millions of trespassing squatters.

It would be easier to count them in jail awaiting trial and place their status and count as “pending”, wouldn’t it? There is absolutely no need to stop raids to get the Census done.
The cencus should not contain illegal aliens! Ths isfor repesentation and they are not entitled to something citizens are. How can we stop this?

I can think of no reasonable or catty reply. This is beyond belief. Guess I’ll just have to await the upcoming civil war. Please put me on Pelosi’s jury...when we capture her and try her.
