President Barack Obama has taken steps to encourage Americans to buy more U.S.-made cars but administration officials show a clear preference for vehicles from foreign-owned firms.
Obama said the government will guarantee warranties on any GM or Chrysler vehicles, and the IRS is notifying consumers who purchased cars after Feb. 16 that they can deduct the cost of any sales and excise taxes.
Yet Politico.com took a look at the vehicles on West Executive Drive, where White House staffers park, and found only five American cars out of 23 vehicles there.
As for several members of Obamas presidential task force on the auto industry, The Detroit News reported:
Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner owns a 2008 Acura. Larry Summers, Director of the White Houses National Economic Council, owns a 1995 Mazda. Peter Orszag, Director of the Office of Management and Budget, owns a 2008 Honda and a 2004 Volvo. Climate czar Carol Browner doesnt currently own a vehicle, but previously drove a 1999 Saab. Vice President Joe Bidens chief economist Jared Bernstein owns a 2005 Honda. Obamas economic adviser Austan Goolsbee owns a 2004 Toyota.
Sorry. I can’t fault someone for using a 1995 Mazda as a commuter vehicle.
And, I’ll bet he has it worked on by service technicians here in the U.S.
It's just another example of how people can be socialists publicly and capitalists personally.
I don’t think that’s the point of the article.
Obama expects us to buy his glorified eco-carts, but he doesn’t demand his staff do the same.
I gotta admit, Summers may be the only person I can mildly relate to in this administration. First he pisses off the Harvard feminazis. Now we find out he still drives a 13 year old car even though he can well afford Rolls Royce. (Not that I can afford a Rolls but I could afford a much newer model than I drive).
Would this car be more of a polluter than a new one? If he's pissing off Algore that further warms the cockles of my heart.
Don’t tell us. Tell the unions.
Well, I am impressed. Not
In a collectivist society and economy,
the elites are always excluded from the privation that they require of the masses.
As for myself, I always
“look for...”
“the union lay bull...”
and buy something else.
The majority of cars that I see with Obama stickers are foreign. It is something that I do notice.
The same people who complain about this complain when the UAW and the Big Three force those employees who drive foreign cars to park in BFE lots.
Honda have been American designed and built for decades in Ohio (Accords), California (Civics). The new Ridgeline is American designed and built in Canada - BTW they are Saa-weet.
My Wife and I owned 2 Ford Taurus. 20 miles to the gallon.
We now own 2 KIA 32 and 34 miles to the gallon. The insurance is cheaper. Now the Fords were older and these are newer so I can not compare repair /work costs yet.
As an American that is free tomake my own choices I chose to buy the better car that cost less. Why would anyone do different..
Need a bumper sticker which says:
“This vehicle built in America
Without Union Labor”
That will get them going...
Yeah. You’d think this is American Government, we use American autos, right? They cram UAW down our throats, but they themselves don’t expect to swallow it.
As long as they aren’t union shops, I’d buy one.
I wouldn’t care HOW good a vehicle was if it was made in a union shop. But, of course, we’ll never have to worry about the intersection of “best quality” and “union made”.
Hondas and Toyotas last forever, and it’s just a matter of “do I want the new style” when you think about trading one in.
mazda’s are manufactured right here in flat rock, michigan....ford motor owns mazda
Freedom. Lemme buy what I want as should people on the administration be free to.
