6.7 Earthquake in Rome, Italy

ROME (Reuters) - A 6.7 magnitude earthquake struck central Italy Monday about 53 miles northeast of Rome, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

A Reuters correspondent in Rome said he and his family had been woken by the quake.

No other details were immediately available.

“This is a significant earthquake,” he said. “This is a shallow quake but there is definitely a possibility of damage and even injuries.

Assisi is not the same place since it was damaged by a quake some twelve years ago. Hopefully this one won’t have done too much damage.

Those Italian hilltop towns are built to withstand almost anything though.
