Gingrich: I would've disabled missile

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich told “Fox News Sunday” that he would have disabled the long-range missile before North Korea launched it, saying too many people “do not appreciate the scale of the threat that is evolving on the planet.”

“One morning, just like 9/11, there’s going to be a disaster,” Gingrich said. “I have yet to see the United Nations do anything effective with either Iran or North Korea.”

Reacting to President Barack Obama’s speech in Prague, Gingrich called the plan for a Global Summit on Nuclear Security a “wonderful fantasy idea,” saying Russia and other nations can’t be trusted.

“What are they going to promise, and why would we believe them?” Gingrich said. “It’s very dangerous to have a fantasy foreign policy, and it can get you in enormous trouble.”

Host Chris Wallace asked Gingrich: “So you’re saying that President Gingrich would have taken out that” missile?

Gingrich replied: “There are three or four techniques that could have been used, from unconventional forces to standoff capabilities, to say: ‘We’re not going to tolerate a North Korean missile launch, period.’ I mean, the world’s either got to decide that North Korea is utterly dangerous … I’d recommend, look at electromagnetic pulse, which changes every … equation about how risky these weapons are.”

South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford, appearing with Gingrich, said: “In the countryside of South Carolina, at some point, you’ve got to back up words with action. … There have been a long series of … intentional steps on North Korea’s part, and little in the way of actions from the standpoint of either America or the international community.”

I love to see John Bolton speaking on issues on Fox News.

He is the most intelligent pundit they have on, and knows the in’s and out’s of the UN and many foreign affairs matters.

Just this morning he weighed in on the current No. Korean fiasco and gave further insight into how the UN works.

He doesn’t have nor will have my vote speaking as one of his former constituents.

That missile would have been great target practice of the Airborne Laser.

Too many people don't see a threat unless they're told it exists. They either doubt their own eyes or their own sanity; or they're afraid of being labeled reactionary radical tin-foil hat conspiracy fear-mongering nuts;

Unless of course they are Watermelon, left-wing enviro-weenies who are out to save the planet from man made global warming.

Then of course it is okay to run around with your hands in the air shouting that the sky is falling.

Then of course every one will say that you are wise and concerned for the greater good of mankind when you tell everyone that they should live in mud huts and eat only organically grown sage grass.

Yep. John Bolton is a terrible thing to waste! We need him in VERY key places...the more the merrier. I totally trust that man, because he gets his high from doing the right thing for the right reasons...that's where his ego lies....not in power, but in strategery.

I love a man that's a man, and not a whiny liberal "victim."

Absolutely right. He did a outstanding job there.

As Speaker Newt saw 12 of 13 major items from the Contract With America pass the House, 8 of 13 pass the Senate, and 6 were presented to Bill Clinton for signature.

King Obama will get a second term and beyond.

I very much doubt that.

The King has declared war on his own country. AKA this country’s economic system.

Obama is systematically destroying our economy in his efforts to transform this country in to a socialist country.

He will not get a second term because in 2012 the people will be so tired of seeing their wealth and standard of living deteriorate that they throw out the President and Democrat majorities in Congress.

Ha ha.

You need to pay attention.

12 of 13 major items from the Contract With America passed the House; 8 of 13 passed the Senate; and 6 were presented to Bill Clinton for signature. Some items were later repackaged in other bills.

>>>>>>> replay those stupid Gingrich global warming commercials, and he loses all credibility withe the conservative constituency. <<<<<<<<

Actually they wouldn’t get much traction out of Newt’s 13 words, which address “climate change” and not global warming.

And, by the way, there is only one commercial, not “commercials” plural, as you say.

>>>>> I did not hear Newt talking like this before the launch. Did I miss something? <<<<<<<<

Why yes you did don-o. Most Newt bashers here on FR do always “miss something” and hence find great opportunity to become brazen DNC shills, sometimes even posting unedited DNC propaganda about Newt right here on FR.

So did you “miss something”? Of course you did.

On Wednesday April 1st 2009, Newt said the following on Fox News:

“I don’t think North Korea should be allowed to launch missiles. I think we should take whatever preemptive actions are necessary.”

“And I find it very difficult to watch the U.S. government be passive as the North Korean dictatorship continues to develop its capacity to deliver nuclear weapons.”

“we in the west have a propensity to lie to ourselves, just as we did in the 1930’s about Adolf Hitler and Nazism.”

“The Iranians are laughing at us as they continue to build more and more centrifuges to build the capacity for nuclear weapons. Hamas laughs at us as they continue to fire missiles into Israel, while Israel gets blamed for responding.”

“sooner or later, we’re going to have to recognize that changing the regime is the only way to change the behavior, because these dictatorships are not going to change on their own. I don’t care how long we talk to them.”

“I think the Obama idea of respecting them and being courteous to them and communicating with them — it implies that they’re fools. Kim Kong Il knows exactly what he’s doing.”

“I would use whatever methods were necessary for the missile never to be launched. And I think you could do it probably with unconventional methods.”

“If necessary. If I can’t find a way to bribe somebody to blow it up, I’d find a way to have either a small team go in, or a way to deliver either a laser or another kind of device.”

“This is a missile that is sitting there on that launch pad, and I think you could take it out with very, very minimal risk to anybody.”

We have the capability to shoot it down. We should have

With this guy at the helm? Are you kidding me? He practically gave the approval for this launch.

My question was rhetorical, but I'm glad you got my point.

I'm glad to see someone that is so knowledgeable on the Contract.

Which of these were passed on the first day?

On the first day of the 104th Congress, the new Republican majority will immediately pass the following major reforms, aimed at restoring the faith and trust of the American people in their government:

Of the ones that were passed, which ones are being effective now, and were when they were implemented.

Thanks.

Your questions and silly innuendo are bizarre and ignorant.

I gave you the numbers.

Do the followup research yourself.

Google this: “Contract with America”.

Then read.

Yes, I agree wholeheartedly.

The naysayers said what good will it do too appoint Bolton to that position, the dems will just throw him out.

The strategy was perfect, it brought his name to the forefront, and causes people to take notice of his reasoned rational honest truthful take on the affairs of state. (Thats a lot of adjectives, yea I like him too! : >)
