You need to see the two ‘friends’ on tape then make your assessment. There is something ‘not right’ about them...not in terms of being a plant. They look/sound too (IMO) pleased with themselves to have made it on TV.
One ‘friend’ claimed he got a phone call from the perp while working his shift at Children’s Hospital; that perp told him he loved him and (friends) mom. That he was going to die today...it just was really weird and disjointed. Phone records should be able to prove any of that. Again, just their demeanor in making the statements that raised all kinds of flags.

Thanks. It wouldn’t surprise me if some of their story was made up to get attention. It’s not like we’ve never seen that before... :)

LR, my husband, one of my sons and I all looked at each other...when we saw it live. It was just a disconnect, I really think I am reading them right.
I usually am never home on a Saturday morning, but I was home today, and I have relatives that live off Stanton Avenue (which is the ‘main’ street thru the neighborhood). I just kept watching it live via local coverage. So it just struck us all (here) as really weird the running commentary the friends made.

What I thought was strange is when his friend said something along the lines of ‘he had said that if this were to ever happen, he would kill himself first’.
What is the ‘this’ that he was referring to and why did they even talk about something like what had occurred.

The local media was just trying to keep up with the developments and ‘fill’ in between talking w/PD information officer and with random occurences (like when they cut the power lines to the street and all three local channels zoomed in on the Duquesne Light worker going up in the cherry picker). Then the first guy (with the glasses) showed up (the one who kept saying how smart/funny Poplawski was; and then friend number two (the one who said he got the phone call from perp; and he left work to come to ‘negotiate’ w/Poplawski—not asked by police—but was in front of a camera instead). Their demeanor....very weird and odd.

Obama must share responsibility for this atrocity. His goal of banning guns helped drive this madman to do it!

Thank you so much for the information. I do appreciate it. I haven’t had a chance to look at the video yet, but I will try to do so soon.
Prayers continuing for all of you affected by this tragedy, especially those mourning the loss of their fathers and husbands, sibling or friends, tonight. How incredibly sad...

Next the Media will be using this to say that only madmen are afraid that Obama will ban guns!

My spider senses were tingling on another thread and I read the "newbie" posting history. I share your sense of suspicion. I suspect this is not a conservative, but a poser.
I was hoping that this person would not foul this thread, since Pittsburgh is my home (Murrysville). I lived in Stanton Heights during my college days.

There is some weird s**t on this thread. I read the whole thing.
From Pittsburgh: KD Radio reported tonight that the shooter got booted from boot camp for attacking his drill instructor. Also heard he was mooning over his girlfriend while in the Marines, and after he got home they broke up. She got a protection from abuse order against him. One of his friends quoted all day is black. He says the shooter isn't racist, but was worried about Obama. Supposedly he posted to a white supremacist web site.
Also heard that one of the cops -- the younger one with a wife and two kids -- didn't have any life insurance on health coverage for his family in case he was killed in the line of duty. This due to the latest round of union negotiations, five years ago. The contract was up in June, and a city councilman said they were going to correct the problems in the new contract.

Do we really have to have this discussion on this thread???
For what it's worth, I'll put my vote in with Canaan. If conservaties, and the GOP, had a little more understanding and respect for women, particularly women who are not married or mothers, (and not always by choice, mind you) we would have won the last election. And I'm not a liberal or a feminazi, thank you. Please take your argument somewhere else!

I seriously hope that’s sarcasm. Next you’ll be telling me that God shares the responsbility for every loony that’s ever killed because “God told him to”. Dude was paranoid-delusional. The responsibility is his and his alone.

You are a liar and a hypocrite. First you ask if we really need this discussion on this thread and then you go on to spam the thread further with troll diversions. You and Canaan are very suspicious and FR has had a long history of problems with DU plants.
And I'm not a liberal or a feminazi, thank you. Please take your argument somewhere else
No thank you! From your post I can very well see that you are a newbie troll. You may want to go back to DU and start your own thread about your exploits of FR.

Update: Apparently the cop-killer is a anti-Semite.
Mr. Perkovic and other former classmates said they were surprised by this morning’s events. Mr. Perkovic said Mr. Poplawski was opposed to “Zionist propaganda” and was fearful that his right to own weapons would be taken away but he wasn’t a member of an organized group or militia.
Read the rest, Elder of Ziyon has link to MySpace page of Poplawski’s friend Perkovic

The spin on this is amazing. He was thrown out of Catholic High School and Boot camp. He was an avowed anti-semite with a history of both drug and alcohol abuse.
How the heck with his history was he "legally" able to obtain weapons? I know the media will never ask this, but it sure would have saved grief and maybe the lives of the three Officers.

Just curious. Why do you think anyone would want to shoot a firefighter? We are unarmed, but then so are nurses, doctors, teachers, salespeople etc. Why just firefighters?

Just checking back in...and I feel like I am beating the drum here...but the ‘friends’ are odd. I just watched some local (Pgh) 11pm news. The friends are not right. All this attention is given to their statements, but you should really try and watch video of them, then make your assessment. I really think they wanted ‘face time’ on TV. Their demeanor is very, very ‘off’ to me.

More neighbors are coming forward. Cops had been at the address multiple times before; apparently he had threatened neighbors as well.
Going to watch KD 11 pm news now (basketball game over).
