The last local report I have heard, on kdka-tv, was that he had been out last night ‘drinking’ with friends; perp lived w/his grandparents (no one is sure where his mother lives or why she was there). The drinking/coming in (7 am. being rported) started the ‘domestic’ situation. 2 Pgh. PD units reponded. Then all hell broke loose.
The problem is (IMO from watching the local wall to wall coverage) is that the perps ‘friends’ rushed to the scene and looked to be interviewed. They (the friends) are making the political statements (and in statements, I mean they don’t sound like ‘stunned, how could this happen, stumbling for words’ but pretty rote wording.)
The investigation will sort this out, and perps acquantances will no doubt be interviewed.
FWIW, Stanton Heights is a very nice, working class neighborhood (I grew up in Oakland section, and my late mom loved the houses out there in SH). Alot of Pgh. PD and Fire Dept. live there. This is so tragic.
“I heard the reporterette”
reporterette? Is there any excuse for this made-up word other than misogyny? C’mon, we’re in the 21st century now.
The three local affliates are (CBS) KdkaTV; (NBC) WpxiTV; and (ABC) WtaeTV (thepittsburghchannel.com). Of the three KD has had the best local coverage at the scene.
Well, that would certainly make more sense. I couldn’t see IBM hiring someone who spoke no English.
One friend, Edward Perkovic, said the gunman feared “the Obama gun ban that’s on the way” and “didn’t like our rights being infringed upon.” Another longtime friend, Aaron Vire, said he feared that President Obama was going to take away his rights, though he said he “wasn’t violently against Obama.” http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworld/sns-ap-pittsburgh-shooting,0,2918635.story I have the news on- live in Pittsburgh, but missed the weird friends...AP picked it up though. Sad day.
At least for now we have a Supreme Court that has enough justices who’ve read the constitution and have voted pro 2nd Amend. They have at least been a check on anti-2nd amendment politics.
We are in HUGE trouble if even a moderate justice leaves.....
Ok, it is the ‘friends’ who are perpetuating the political aspects. They are on all local stations (saying the same things over and over).
The local coverage was live almost right after the first shots were exchanged. Remember this is a Saturday morning; and they are typically slow news days here. This story just exploded, in a residential area, a cul de sac, at the bottom of hill, first thing in the morning, with occupied houses all around. In the scramble for news coverage, his ‘friends’ show up; start making political statements.
Most recent update, three officers confirmed dead; two officers injured (one shot in hand); other injuries unknown.
He was not a marine!!! He was kicked out US Marine boot camp; he was all ‘removed’ from North Catholic HS for disciplinary actions in his Junior year. KD also reporting that the perp told friends ‘he had discussed something like happening.’
I would suggest going to KD tv. Their coverage has been more accurate (from my channel surfing). The friends are odd, and their statements are (to me) more like a prepared statement kind of thing. Please watch and lmk your thoughts.
This is heartbreaking. Not id’ing Pgh PD officers yet. Possibly at 3 pm press conf.
“misogyny?”
LOL, you must be a liberal. Rush Limbaugh invented the word as a not so subtle put down of reporters and their profession.
Per Lynn Hayes Freeland, KD, one of the deceased officers lived in the neighborhood.
I have to go but I am watching an earlier vid of his crazy friend... gees with friends like that. Take care.
Per Andy Shehan, when police first arrived, the first two units were ‘ambushed’ as soon as they arrived. Poploski openned fire right away. Perp, shot several times; at UPMC Presbyterian now.
The mother is in police custody, for questioning.
Me too...I have to leave as well. The officer, who lived in the neighborhood, was off duty at 7 a.m He went to the scene to assist ‘officer down.’ He was within walking distance of his own house. Tragic doesn’t seem to sum it up.
Really? Do you have most of your teeth? Does your mom sit outside on a lawnchair in her mumu with her hair in rollers? ;-)
JMHO
Not that I condone his actions but he does have a point.
It’s always beyond tragic when a cop loses their life in the line of duty.
This is sounding a bit too contrived for my skeptical mind. Either these “friends” are making whole cloth out of a few threads or they are some how involved or had prior knowledge.
Dear God,I am just reading this. How sad.Do we have a link for live coverage?
