Romney gives serious talk at GOP dinner
trailblazersblog.dallasnews.com ^ | 04-01-09 | Romney gives serious talk at GOP dinner

Posted on 04/02/2009 7:01:07 PM PDT by GOP_Lady

Former presidential candidate Mitt Romney gave a pretty philosophical keynote at the GOP fundraiser tonight.

At times the 30-minute address sounded like a history lesson or a college lecture.

As the crowd welcomed him with a standing ovation, Romney warned that he'd be speaking seriously. This would be no pep rally full of political zingers.

"These are critical times," Romney said. "Defining times for the world and the nation."

Romney talked about what he saw as competing world philosophies, including that of jihadists, and critical times in history, like the Civil War and the American Revolution.

"Republicans are the revolutionaries of the day because we fervently, passionately, ardently believe that the individual accounts for the strength of America today," Romney said.

The former Massachusetts governor and businessman also explained how he sees the Democrats' view on power: that it lies in the hands of government and bureaucrats.

"We recognize it is the power of the individual that's made America what it is," Romney said.

He later continued, "I think the American people are seeing through what's happening. The Democrats are trying to use the crisis to further their philosphy of the supremacy of government ... The American people are not as thick as some would believe or have us believe."

Massresistance isn’t a “ Obama blog”

it is a right wing, conservative group that is on the left’s hit list.

"After all, wearing their Romney kneepads and trying to orally defend Slick Willard are tough to do at the same time."

They're good at that sort of multitasking. ;-)

"Should we oppose Obama when he does something we would normally want to have done? If he proposes a tax cut, should we attack him and say he should raise taxes instead? "

When he attaches socialized medicine, carbon taxes, and green machines to the legislation, yes!

I wouldn’t be too proud of that scorecard if I were you. My dog would have received more votes than all of those clowns.

Give it a rest with that crap. You got your Socialist President already, but you just lament it wasn’t a RINO Socialist instead of a Rodent one.

I cannot figure out Romney...I know he did the MassCare thing, but I was told (I lived in Boston for 6 years) by friends there that he actually had a system that kept abuse down and fees steady to doctors...not Duval Patrick has come and completely f-ed it up with more hands out...

The abortion thing...not sure if he’s truly pro-choice or just wants the states to decide...some say a cop out, but could win more blue state women (and piss off red staters, but he figures that is probably a nose-holder vs. a Democratic lever pull - Liberals want to be able to kill babies up to full term, on the state’s dime)

CFR - I know he is a member, but is he a Gordon Brown/TOny Blair/George Soros New World Order guy...he seems too “pro-US” for that, maybe it’s just a prestigious club for him, who knows...

Mormon - not an issue for me, but some think it’s odd. Don’t know enough about them other than they are very secretive and have Masonic-like rituals and wear odd underwear...

I like Romney, personally...and please, you know he would have smoked Dopey-Changey, the Affirmative Action hero.

He’s a leftist, a con-artist, and a renowned liar. He is a party killer, pro-abort, pro-gay marriage, and appointed pro-criminal judges. One of the worst and most incompetent and destructive Governors to claim GOP affiliation in the modern era, and deliberately and willfully left his state party completely and totally dead, all to go whoring after his real goal, the Presidency, to which he is as unqualified and undeserving as the current occupant. To say this flipflopping fraud would’ve whipped his fellow left-wing con-artist from Chicago is patently ludicrous. We’d have been lucky not to have suffered even further losses last November had he been on the ticket.

When Slick Willard’s name is in the title, it IS a barf alert.

Romney praises Obama
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney praised President Obama
at a GOP fundraising dinner Wednesday ..
"I also think it's important for us to nod to the president when he's right," Romney said....
Romney, who spoke at a dinner for the National Republican Senatorial Committee,
said he's pleased with the president's plans to "finish the job" in Iraq and Afghanistan
-- lines that drew applause from the partisan audience. He also applauded the president for standing up to the auto industry.
"I hope he continues to be tough ....The former businessman even offered faint praise for
Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner, saying that after a series of initial missteps,
"I think he's finally getting close to the right answer."

Lowering taxes while endlessly increasing the size and scope of government. Insanity itself.

Absolute complete fools like you that don't get your way 100% of the time is one reason the country is on the road to ruin.

It's immature, damaging and foolish.

People who demand and want everything or they will take their ball and go home are short sighted and end up hurting the country in the long run.

A short sighted fool. Think about it.

I take it that you are also including the distinguished owner of this board in your comments above, which you are directing at me after I posted (once again) his opinion and policy on Romney...?

That's right, go back to 1994.

I'll take a less than perfect position on guns, rather than lose the right altogether.

We'll be lucky if we still have the right to the second amendment in 2012.

Yes, RM. Posting a pic of a woman with a beer tap attached to the nipple area of each of her naked breasts, with tubing leading down to two beer cans attached at her crotch, and wearing nothing else, is a bikini, by your standards. Why it's a beer bikini!

Somehow, I can't envision the great and dear Ronald Reagan, who had a deep and abiding respect for women, either posting the pic or approving of it's posting.

I saved the thread, and would love to repost the pic you posted, but it would be counterproductive. When the thread was reported to JR, it was pulled immediately thereafter, so I guess management agreed with me on that one.

That thread is juvenile, immature and disrespectful, as are the posters. Why you all feel the incessant need to post such trash like little adolescent and teenage high school boys hanging up similar posters in their lockers and on their bedroom walls, is anyone's guess. But I do believe you enjoy making women on FR angry.

Sorry, hon, he's not. And I have yet to hear a single pundit describe him that way.

No RINO has ever run on a Reagan pro-life platform or enacted pro-life legislation as governor. Your definition of RINO, is far too broad as is true of others on FR.

Because of thinking like yours, Obama is in the whitehouse. Now America is in greater trouble than at any time in my life time. Thanks a lot.

Yes, let’s keep talking about the “romney-care” that is nothing like what Romney proposed, or even what he ended up signing, and that was original passed years ago.

Because we have nothing new to talk about, since everything in the world now is just hunky-dory.

I have no doubt that Romney-care, as he originally proposed, would have not been the answer to the problems we have. That would be a good reason why Romney’s national platform didn’t include a “Romney-care” national solution.

It’s easy enough just criticizing and attacking rather than coming up with a solution to problems. It’s even easier, and less useful, to criticize and attack things that happened years ago when there are new problems that need to be solved.

Maybe next week we can spend valuable time discussing all the problems with Reagan’s immigration plan.

Oh, the plan he implemented devised by the Conservative Heritage Foundation who counts as it's most prestigious member, Margaret Thatcher. That plan.

I applaud the effort to make things fairer so taxpayers weren't forced to pay for those not having insurance. It was a step away from socialism NOT toward it.

Tough to unravel socialism when it's been implemented for years. But get used to it. It's going to be far worse when Obama gets finished, thanks to purist thinking like your own.
