Ward Churchill won his case against the University of Colorado today as a Denver jury unanimously decided he was fired in retaliation for his controversial essay on the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks.
The jury gave Churchill $1 for

I think you’re right on the reinstatement. Naves seems to be pretty even-keeled.
Wouldn’t that be a riot if Churchill ends up with $1, and no job, while the grandstanding Lane ends up paid? I wonder if settlement was ever offered in this case - it would certainly be funny if Lane convinced Churchill not to settle.
Churchill was paid $96,392, one year of salary as severance pay, in July of 2007. Naves shouldn’t give him a penny.
Colorado is a Godless land
Perhaps; but, after taxes he gets .66.
Then comes the real justice: windfall taxes. ;^)
As I recall the university limited its reasons for dismissal in order to be nice. We all know there were multiple reasons (false resume, plagiarism in writing and art work, etc.)
Just another case of poor defense by lawyers who did not take the case seriously and/or university administrators who tried to be nice and said stupid things to help this clown.
He can add that to Obama’s middle class tax cut and buy a burger. No cheese or bacon however.
As compassionate as CO people are, it’s a wonder they don’t all contribute just $2 each to make Ward a multi-millionaire.
Good points, but CO people can’t understand.
I can’t believe Ward Churchill was able to put a bomb together without blowing himself to bits!
There has to be some token monteary value. Even a simple contract is only binding and often $1 is used as the binding amount.
yes he does own that patent, is it worth anything?
“There has to be some token monteary value.”
I understand that in order to find in his favor, there has to be some value lost to him. Therefore, to say that he deserves zero money is to say that no wrong was done to him.
What strikes me is that the jury seemed to be saying there was no wrong done to him, since they wanted to give him nothing. My real question is, why did they find in his favor if they think he deserved zero repayment?
I’m surprised that Churchill doesn’t have a high-level position in the Obama administration by now.
It substantially reduces the material cost of powderless vinyl examination gloves, a widely used medical disposable. So, maybe, maybe not. The company I was working for at the time has since gone bust. I don't know who owns the nominal rights, if anybody. They were bought by Lightyear Capital, but I don't know any more than that.
Given that I signed an agreement to sell it for a buck, wouldn't that be the limit of what I could recover?
If you have signed and agreement but they never paid youthe dollar, technically the agreement is void.
I would contact a lawyer if you want to seriosly pursue it- maybe they will give you some money just to make you go away.
If you ever asked for your dollar in email or writing that would be great- and if any witnesses from that company are aroiund, even better!
You just need to find a lawyer who is willing to tackle it and play hardball. I have heard there are one or two unscrupulouas ones that will sue over anything!! (no! really!)
I had a tenant once who sued me, even though I had two witnesses that he injured himself at work -not at my apartment building. The insurance company I had was going to PAY him and I made such a ruckus they stopped that. The little weasle never got a dime from me or anyone else because
I made sure the false affidavits he signed followed him everywhere and I think his lawyer got in trouble for having him sign contradicting affidavits he knew to be false.
If you have the priginal patent with your name, it miught even be easier than all this- you just enforce your patent. and since the company is not out of business, you dont have to worry they willclaim they own it, and as a backup- they never paid you for it. (Seriously they actually have to GIVE you the dollar)
