A modern-day Alice in Wonderland [Clyburn calls Sanford a Mad Hatter, Graham a Cheshire Cat] [barf]
The State, Columbia, SC ^ | 2009-04-02 | U.S. Rep. James Clyburn, D-S.C., 6th District

Posted on 04/02/2009 11:37:03 AM PDT by rabscuttle385

The fate of the stimulus money in South Carolina is beginning to remind me a bit of the fictional story of Alice in Wonderland, which would be comical if it weren’t so vitally serious. Imagine the potential federal investment as Alice, falling into a strange world, not welcome by several of the main characters. We have the Mad Hatter — a governor whose tea party features generous helpings of debt reduction, unemployment, crumbling schools and a small array of ideologues who agree with his every nonsensical utterance. We have the Cheshire Cat — a U.S. senator who fades in and out of the debate and seems to leave a telling grin behind after tossing out political doublespeak that serves no purpose but to muddy the waters. Let’s be clear here: This is no fairy tale. This is real life and a real crisis for many South Carolinians. Political gamesmanship has no place in this effort to stimulate the economy, create jobs and save our schools. The characters have put proving their political ideologies above their duty as elected officials to represent the best interests of their constituents. Allowing — and even encouraging — the continued downward spiral of our state’s economy while families struggle to keep their homes, put food on the table and provide a high-quality education for their children is unconscionable.

Looks like they’re launching a multi-front “shaming” campaign against Sanford, just like they have done against Palin.

His district now gets all the school funds, our district (down in the low country) has all the Hispanics coming into it and Clyburn's district and his little cabal up around Columbia have the votes to keep the money there instead of where the problems are. This is just another angry, black, liberal democrat with liberal circuitous thinking... example:

His words..." Most people of this state are not interested in hearing lessons on constitutional law. They would much rather see us working together, as I tried to do, to find constitutional and common ground to turn around the dire conditions in our state."

How can you find "constitutional common ground" if you don't even begin to understand constitutional law. As for the "handout" ... this man doesn't care that 2 years from now when the "handout" stops, our taxes go up and at that point we are obligated to pick up the costs ourselves (which we cannot afford). Why look 2 years ahead? Just live for today and party on. If the "handout" happens and the Republicans ever get back in power, this guy better be looking for a soupline (where he probably belongs anyway rather than writing circuitous op-eds and pretending he is a State Legislator).

“Well, Clyburn’s 50% on the money....”

With his intelligence, 50% is a miracle.

This is the depth of Jim Clyburn’s intellect: being able to make reference to an intellectually stimulating work of juvenile literature.

Tweedle Dum doesn’t seem to understand or care that this scamulus would put South Carolina further into the hole in the long run by altering and creating new programs and only funding a fraction of them.

What the h.ll is his district doing with all the money since his district is the “corridor of shame”. By the way - all that money they make on the lottery - wasn’t that supposed to earmarked for education? Another joke, huh?
