If a long-term Democrat switched parties to qualify for an appointment by a Democrat governor, the GOP would justifiably be more than a little skeptical. Unless there is more to the story, in this case, I can’t blame the AK Dems.

She ought to appoint Todd’s lead sled dog, just so the Dims won’t be too intellectually outclassed.

What am I missing here?
Does Palin need them to endorse her pick?

It will not be much of a fight if the AK Senate Majority Leader is a Democrat.

There's little time remaining, with 17 days before the end of the 2009 legislative session. In the meantime, Juneau is without representation in the state Senate. Looks like Governor Palin's slick maneuver triggered a nasty behind-closed-doors Rat brawl. Outstanding!
Now, all she has to do is run out the clock on them.

When are people going to finally realize you have to get up and FIGHT these dem punks! You have to use every legal means necessary to do what is right.
Although, when your fighting someone whose religion is the state, then it is a tough battle.

Article II, § 4 of the Alaska Constitution: “A vacancy in the legislature shall be filled for the unexpired term as provided by law. If no provision is made, the governor shall fill the vacancy by appointment.” Absent a law to the contrary I don’t see where the Democrats have a say in who gets to fill out the term. Shut up and say ‘Hello’ to State Senator Grussendorf.
To: SolidWood
Since this was an appointment and not an election, the State Governor had a legitimate input into the choice. The normal custom was for the democrats of the disttrict to profer a choice of three names to the Governor. Instead they tried to box her in by offering only one name. She called their bluff. They now have to sit down with her and discuss three possible names. Among other things the Governor was protection the dignity of her office. Among the many tactics used by Palin’s enemies is “dignity stripping”. Obviously The Governor does not suffer these fools gladly.
To: SolidWood
Palin had asked them for additional names right from the start, the dems refused, so she opened it up to any democrat who wanted to be appointed. Now, the dems are being forced to do what they should have done in the first place.
