To acknowledge the fundamental injustice, cruelty, brutality and inhumanity of slavery in the U.S. and the 13 American colonies between 1619 and 1865, and to establish a commission to examine the institution of slavery, subsequent de jure and de facto racial and economic discrimination against African-Americans, and the impact of these forces on living African-Americans, to make recommendation to the Congress on appropriate remedies, and for other purposes.

How would anyone go about deciding or proving whom is a slave descendant or who is not. How many Egyptians would consider themselves Africans if that was the basis of payments?
Somewhere in law IMO there is a doctrine about not being held accountable for acts committed by your forebearors. To accommodate such an action now would require changing the constitution IMO and I don't believe enough states would go along with this crap to do so.
If our government is desirous of a race war here, passage of such a pile of crap like reparations may just do it.
Vince
So now we don't only support the lazy good for nothing descendants they want us to give money to dead people too.
Just like a Democrat.
I agree.
ROTFLMAO! I love the idea!
We’ll see a ton of non-blacks cross party lines in future elections if this disaster passes
I really doubt it. If what Obama and the house RATS have already done didn't bring people into the streets, nothing will.
The Left said to give Obama a pass cause when Ayers was doing his thing Obama was only 8 yrs old....
So I want a pass as well cause when slavery happened I wasn’t even born yet!
Yes, seriously,
if you look at who is “giving” and who is “receiving”,
you’ll see that all of the spending bills so far are de facto reparations.
ME TOO!
I'd just want to know what their secret was for living so long.
By contrast, almost all African-Americans have some white ancestors that were slave owners.
Hm, I think the claimants SHOULD be paid, as the demand... though in lead and copper (esp hollow-point).
I do believe that it’s legal (at least in my state) to defend your property; this bill would be merely an excuse for larceny.
Easy. See Post 51.
Descendants of slave owners and the descendants of those in power, government officials, who were in charge of the institutions that made slavery systemic should pay the reparations if anything.
Also, the recipients of reparations should only be descendants of slaves not immigrants from Kenya that came after the fact.
Of course. Remember, they are still voters....
Ah, but the argument will be that because of slavery, and the consequent discrimination against african-americans, their descendents of today were at a disadvantage vis a vis everyone else, in that their families were less able to build up wealth, time etc to bring their children up as well. Further, if modern african-americans are disadvantaged, it follows by definition that non-african americans have an advantage. Even if you and yours never had anything to do with slavery, you are still beneficaries of that priviliged position.
So, how do you counter that argument?
hint: see post 25 :)
That’s if you buy the argument that their current descendents are disadvantaged through an influence other than the current ilk of democrats and black folks who perpetuate the myth of disadvantage. QED, look at who our president is.
Starting with Obama.
