Confirmation of what we had already deduced: the source of most of the cartel's weapons is likely corrupt Mexican military officials. Also acknowledgement that the Mexican government refuses to provide serial numbers to trace the arms.

I would imagine that these weapons are much cheaper to buy in Mexico that here in the States.

Funny, the vast majority of the heavy and automatic weapons that have been confiscated in MX have not been US made... Chinese, Russian, and others.

We need to stop the flow of guns and weapons towards Mexico. Let me express to you that we've seized in this two years more than 25,000 weapons and guns, and more than 90 percent of them came from United States, and I'm talking from missiles launchers to machine guns and grenades.

I call BS.

If these weapons were going to the Taliban, it would take around 24 hours for the US government to stop the flow.

"To be sure, some criminal actors in the U.S. are smuggling small arms across the border."

I have no doubt that this is true also. However, I suspect a majority of these weapons are being purchased by ordinary, everyday Mexican citizens that can afford them. For their own protection from these vicious psycho drug gangs. These Mexican drug gangs are akin to the Columbian drug gangs of the 80's.

You know a lot of people forget that Hugh Chavez let Russia build plants in his country to make a lot of AK47s and other armament's for his view of revolution in South and central American. I would say that his plants are the ones supplying a lot of these so called illegal weapons to the drug lords.

Excellent article thanks for posting.

I have just one small issue.

42 grenade launchers valued at $518,531;

That’s more than 12K per launcher. I would guess that the government purchase price for an M-203 is about $300 since there is not much to them. You could buy over 17,000 at that price.
