I would imagine that these weapons are much cheaper to buy in Mexico that here in the States.
I call BS.

I wonder why no mention of Mexican ports where container ships dock and offload are never mentioned. Are we supposed to believe that the federales have a security stranglehold on those despite the rest of the country being out of control?
Yea, I think the Mexicans get their arms from other countries. I have read where full auto AK’s can be had for $50 in the middle east. Try to buy one here in the States for that money. That will buy you a couple of mags.
Actually, they are much more expensive if they are "bought" but - not an issue. Most of these weapons are "freely" given. Heavy arms are provided to the narco gangs by corrupt officials - both military and civilian. In exchange, these officials get drug money and provide protection to the drug gangs. In turn, the drug gangs provide "protection" to the corrupt officials.
A couple of hundred thousand American dollars is coffee money when you are involved in a drug trade to make hundreds of millions of dollars.
“A couple of hundred thousand American dollars is coffee money when you are involved in a drug trade to make hundreds of millions of dollars.”
How true!
If these weapons were going to the Taliban, it would take around 24 hours for the US government to stop the flow.
Ah-HA! So that's why I couldn't find any 40mm HE ammo at Cabela's...

Is this another Drugs for Arms deal? (or visa-versa)
Well, at least they’re not blaming US gun shops anymore.
I have just one small issue.
42 grenade launchers valued at $518,531;
Thats more than 12K per launcher. I would guess that the government purchase price for an M-203 is about $300 since there is not much to them. You could buy over 17,000 at that price.
I would imagine that a lot of the individual automatic weapons are H&K 91s (G3) made under license in Mexico itself, and the new Mexican designed, although derived from the H&K G-36, 5.56 assault rifle the FX-05 Xiuhcoatl" (Fire Serpent in the language of the Aztecs).
G3
FX-05
Good old military corruption...
Reflex, more time spent on this angle you mention, would in my opinion, be time not wasted.
Of a sudden, when just recently Yugo Chavez was announcing a Russian deal to bring create a Russian/Venezuelan cooperative for AK-47s and such?
