The Institute on Religion & Democracy is blasting the religious denomination of President Barack Obama for its recent stance on condom distribution inside houses of worship.
Recently, the HIV and AIDS Network of the United Church of Christ (UCC) said condoms should be handed out at places of worship. The statement was issued during a presentation to the denomination's Wider Church Ministries Board and also advocated making condoms available at faith-based educational settings.
A UCC executive said that condom distribution is a matter of life and death and that condoms should be made available to save the lives of young people.
Calling it the denomination's "moral responsibility" to make condoms available, the UCC's executive for health and wellness advocacy said "people of faith make condoms available because we have chosen life so that we and our children may live."
Alan Wisdom, with the Institute on Religion & Democracy, believes the UCC's statement is dangerous. "It sends a message to youth particularly, the kids who meet in their Sunday schools, that the church really has no expectation of them in terms of sexuality...

You are correct. If anything, the Churches of Christ have the reputation of being legalistic,(though the y are very congregational so experiences may vary) unlike the very liberal UCC.
My father was the president of the church council 20 years ago and since they hired this thing, every senior member of the church has abdicated to another church.

Grandma I know what a Biblical based church is like, really. I grew up attending them, and then raised my son attending some. We left two because the theme was geting too far off the Bible. Did find another in that area. But since I moved, there are very few.
The one Obama attended is *United* Church of Christ—not to be confused with the church of Christ, of which I am a member.
These churches are no longer places of worship, but only platforms for leftist diatribes and activism.
Plenty of nutty liberals in the RCC. We conservative Catholics resist a lot harder.
What next? Lining up partners so the condoms won’t go to waste?
I left the Methodist Church over 40 years ago, it’s even worse now.
I thought you were having trouble finding one. It’s getting harder all the time. About 15 years or so, we left the ELCA for the LCMS and the LCMS churches we’ve attended have been solid. We’re happy members now.
There are three I have to chose from when visiting relatives, 2 of them in KY. When there I have to chose to go with Mom, or my brother. I like both.

I want to stay with Missouri Synod Lutheran in which I was raised. I just need to find one in my area that fits. The last one was Wisconsin Synod and it wasn’t as ‘by the book’ as I prefer. I go to hear the word, not glad hand everyone and spend a lot of time fund raising and padding the church coffers. I’m not naive; I know part of it is doing good works; it just shouldn’t get in the way of saving my soul, you know? ;)
When I joined, the church was 100% debt-free. By the time I left a few years later, they were $600K in debt for church improvements and building a school and a daycare. It was becoming a circus, IMHO, and the leadership was questionable from the top down.
The church of Christ (very conservative) is unrelated to the UNITED Church of Christ (extremely liberal).
