He lives in and broadcasts from Palm Beach most of the time. I think he has an apartment in NYC and occasionally broadcasts from there. Under NY stringent tax laws he is probably considered a resident because he spends a certain amount of time living and earning there...?

I think she was originally from the Dallas area.

He’s probably considered a resident because he had a residence and place of business landed there (the broadcast booth).

But while Rush has opposed such “tax the rich” laws, the Rolling Stones and Beatles have espoused more Left Wing rhetoric and yet both have engaged in “offshore” tax dodges to escape higher tax rates. Help was made in Bermuda to avoid British taxes (they had to be out of the country a period of time to save their earnings).

How about Tennessee? No state income tax there. Go to Nashville Rush!

Great idea...Tennessee would be an outstanding choice.

I love Pennsylvania.

Rush did live in Pittsburgh for years. That's how he became a Steeler fan.

PA State income tax -- 3.1% flat rate. Local wage (not income) taxes anywhere between 1% & 3% depending on municipality. State sales tax 6% (7% in Allegheny & Philadelphia counties) is not accessed on food or clothing. Property taxes, based on market value, are moderate to high compared to other areas, but mitigated by the fact that housing prices a far lower for comparable properties than in other areas. A million dollar home in the Pittsburgh suburbs would be worth $5 million or more in suburban New York, Chicago or even Dallas.

But then again, I'd think Rush wants a 12-month golf season, and that ain't happening in Pennsylvania.

“FNL, is, of course, about Midland-Odessa.”

... but it’s filmed near Austin. Our own home was considered for a setting for one of their shows (but not chosen ultimately).

10,000 people pay 80% (+/-) of the taxes, if 1,000 leave NYC will implode, the city leaders will raise taxes to make up any short fall.

...causing more to leave, causing a further hike in taxes, causing more to leave until there's just one guy left paying the 500% tax rate.

Please explain why a city as large and as filled with business, retail, and commercial enterprises as NY City, they can’t exist on a sales tax?

Because nearly half the people living in NYC are either on public assistance or the public payroll.

Yeah, I think that has to do with existing film infrastructure, but it’s jarring to me. They talk about “west texas,” then have rolling forests shots -— probably piney woods near Tyler or some such.

They did film some at the Midland stadium (which is like a college stadium).

They also changed the MOJO uniforms to blue (they’re black).

I think there is some misconception with this thread.

Rush currently lives in Florida.
He isn't moving from Florida.

He has an apt in NYC and flies there when Hurricanes are predicted for Florida. This allows him to broadcast when his home location is out of power.

NY & NYC taxes require he list how many days a year he is at that residence and pay tax on that income. He said on the show he must have several ways to identify where he is every day of the year.

He is now looking for a new remote location to go when the hurricanes disrupt his home in Florida.

My property taxes here are one-twentieth what they were for a similar home in NJ.
You can afford to travel more when you save a hefty 5-figure sum on property taxes. You can also afford a better accountant to take care of the state income tax ;) but that’s another story for another day...

How about a huge ocean liner that could give him safe haven after the RATS give us fairness doctrine.

He can also move the liner around to avoid hurricanes.

He could turn it into a money-making venture by giving the rest of us cruises on his liner.

From the way Ron White talks about Texas I wouldn’t mind moving there too.

I work for a company that is headquartered in New York City. If I go from where I work in Pittsburgh to the headquarters even for one day I owe New York taxes and must file a return with New York.

That's a new one on me. Do you get paid a daily rate?

I have gone to New York on business many times and never paid taxes there. I'm on salary so it really does not matter where I am on short assignments. Going into other countries, however, I knew enough to not tell customs agents that I was there to 'work'. I was always just "visiting" whatever the local business entity was.

I’ve always wanted to attend a concert at Bass Hall. The Chieftains were there earlier this month, that would’ve been perfect.
