Women's Right to Vote, the Beginning of the End for America?
Chico Enterprise Record ^ | 3/29/09 | OneVike

From the day the founding Fathers risked their liberty and life by signing the Declaration of Independence, there has been those who have wanted to sink this great ship called the United States of America. Well 143 years later the good ship America took a torpedo hit that at the time seemed like just another glancing blow. What many still consider the greatest step forward in equality for the sexes, was more then just a glancing blow however. It was in fact a deadly strike that entered the very heart of the ship and has been smoldering since. The damage caused by the 19th amendment was slow in its destruction, but after almost 100 years we can now see how complete the destruction really was.

Something my father and I have been toying with in history that might have had an even bigger impact than the 19th Amendment was the Cultural Revolution of the 1960’s. The discussion came up when I asked why people do not look their best to go out in public anymore. I believe before the 1960’s there was a standard of having morals when you were in public and looking your best. After the 1960’s, I would say, is when America suffered most.

Women's best roles are in support of the men they love. That is what they were created to do. When women try to overtake the role of men is when we start having problems. I am going to get Biblical here, so if you have a problem with it, stop reading. The serpent tempted Eve not Adam. This was a direct assault on the role of a woman. Also, part of the curse that God placed on mankind because of their sin was that the woman would “long” for her husband. This was not a sexual reference, but instead pointing out that women will long for the dominant role that their husbands have and that will be the real battle.

Although, as a female, I have always agreed that a woman should definitely not be in the office of the Presidency. A woman will have a very hard time signing an order that will send husbands, sons, brothers, fathers to fight in wars, even when it is necessary. That is a view that not many of my female peers in college agree with...and that's fine with me! I like to stand out! =D

Very interesting read!!

“But, you said....;)”

Said nothing of the sort! Simply implied, vote smarter, generally, for a decade or so, so we can turn things around.

You’re going to compare a part of the world ruled by Muslims who HATE women and America who was STARTED as a Christian nation?

Absolutely right. I did and yes you are correct that the same thing happened in the church. Men need to stop being pansies that always worry what someone in a skirt is going to say.

If men act like the God fearing men they were created to be then women would not think about questioning their rule. However men have turned from God and decided to worship the creation over the Creator. Is it any wonder women in time stopped being the supportive ladies God made them?

Getting personal eh, I must have hit a nerve. I will bet you I am more educated than you unless you have a Master’s or PHD. I will also bet I’ve seen more of the world and life, particularly the ugly side of it than you can even imagine.

No, Mary not a nerve, I just don't like to see Freerepublic misrepresented as some sort of backwater where people don't embrace free speech, free expression (the vote) property ownership for all who qualify by dint of hard work and perseverence. This conversation veers dangerously close to a mindset that is taliban like. One poster even lauded the Muslims for their treatment of women. Good lord, our brave young people have diet opposing that. If a nerve was hit, it was a nerve that said, "ouch, this is going the wrong way." V's wife.

direct election of Senators

I think that perhaps has done the most damage as it cultivated the cronyism and the palm-greasing among other problems. The next most damaging is the lack of term limits. No good can come of the same people serving decade after decade. I don't think giving women the vote is the problem that actually should be attributed to an ignorant citizenry (of both sexes), the growth of the welfare state, and the growth of powerful huge unions.

>>Behind the scenes these strong women would prod and nudge because they thought the men moved to slow at times.<<

>>It would be easier to hold back the rising waters of the Red River in North Dakota then to reverse any amendment to the constitution.<<

(etc.)

Tell you what, you men can be the only ones who get to vote when we women are the only ones who get to blog. Your writing is the reason God gave us grammar check.

I think about Kate Michelman (sp?) the NARAL leader, a young Catholic wife in the 1960s abandoned by her husband with three young kids. She wasn’t even for abortion rights before that. Now look at all the evil she’s done. Good going, dude.

It’s when the men fall over that some bad women rise up.

I don’t think anyone on this thread is saying that FReeper women shouldn’t vote. I am sure we all vote. I understand the position to be, it would be better for election results in America if ALL women didn’t vote. You’d miss my vote, but you’d cancel out a lot of welfare voters, too, for a net gain of conservative votes. It’s an obvious truth, whether we like it or not.

Obviously, the statistics are different in the Middle East. Do the men there even vote in most countries? I don’t think so. So it is not fair to say we all want an Islamic Republic! We are just noting, accurately, that the country has gone downhill towards socialism since women started voting.

Unfortunately they have the wrong God. Amazing what happens when you have the right God. However, now we are to the point that we too are starting to look to the wrong god. In time we too could end up with men that will overthrow the government and put in place a new government. If we do not follow the one true God we will not fix the problem.

Cannot discount the fact that women used to be more godly then their husbands as a rule and they kept the men from being too stupid. Once they got the right to vote they slowly became as bad as the men in many ways. It has been a snowball effect that has picked up so much speed it is bowling over everything in its path.

Remember this country was based upon Judeo Christian ideas and it is those ideas that are being overturned with men vying for there vote.

Most middle eastern country's never started from those values so they had no where to go but down from the start.

I agree with your wife and have often stated such to my husband on many occasions.

I am a political junkie. I have a greater understanding of history, economics, politics and business than most of the men I deal with daily (except here on FR, of course). Most of what my husband knows concerning politics and political philosophy he has learned from me. That being said, I think this country would be much better off if women had never been given the right to vote.

I’m not for Taliban nonsense but I do think women need to be put back some, they have gotten too much in control in the west..

She states she is not for the Taliban, and, in effect, says, well, really I am for their less radical brethren. In using the Taliban as a comparative, she introduces the whole of Islam, with the Taliban being cited as the extreme. Saying women "have gotten too much control in the west," that women "need to be put back some," the logical deduction is she views the treatment of the women in Muslim countries favorably, although she will not go so far as to embrace the extreme wing of Muslimism: the Taliban. You said “for the demise of western literature...” I said nothing about the demise of western literature (although it probably could be argued), but the culture has certainly taken a turn for the worse, overall.

“Tom Sawyer” and “Huck Finn” did not “advance progressive notions about blacks and journeys and escapes into freedom”!! Mark Twain was writing about the life he’d lived and the world he knew and commenting more on general hypocrisy and small-mindedness in general. He would have a heyday with your ridiculous assertions about his works.

“Innocents Abroad” was as funny back then as it is today if you have traveled in Europe (I read it while spending 3 months there with an aunt and laughed myself to tears over it). The churches over there which have collections of skulls and remains and which, after seeing dozens alike prompted his comment, “is he ah, is he dead?” to the poor guide who didn’t get the sarcasm is just being funny, not commenting on mores for heaven’s sake. And the churches still (or as of 1987 did) have them and after seeing dozens you are inclined to laugh. It is not a social comment, just a release of tension while under the stress of travel.

That quote of yours, from a newspaper (which Twain, by the by, didn’t have the greatest opinions of having worked for them) hardly represents anything other than a cranks opinion. I can find you a dozen like that tomorrow if I would look in whatever newspaper is still publishing today.

You said:
“Here, self-sacrifice, embracing your fellow man (and the logic by extension is your fellow woman) is considered a mark of manliness. In other words, treating others as your equal, is, in 1885 America, a mark of manliness.

The logic is NOT by extension your fellow woman and the author of that bit you quoted would not agree with you either, not one iota I am more than willing to bet.
A mark of manliness is “manliness” not womanliness. All your saying they are equal does not make it so and never will.
In 1885 as you might point out, most American men did not consider many people in the world, women among them, as their equals, sorry but true. Women were not lesser but they were not equals to men. They are different.

Any man back then would have some ripe words for you twisting their words and meaning as you do and I’d enjoy listening to him speak about it.

And hey, I’m a half-black woman who in those men’s eyes had a certain place back then that I wouldn’t have liked I admit. But the past it what it was and just because it wasn’t always nice by our standards doesn’t mean it is without merit.

Good arguments on both sides. Statistics, though, show the truth about how the majority of women vote. However, one of the worst developments has been the influx of liberals into the main stream media, shows such as Ophra, The View, and women in the work place. All of this has resulted in a feminizing of American men - not to mention the “Gay Rights” movement. It could be that socialism, marxism and all of that saw all of these weaknesses which they have been progressively attacking for about 100 years now. Well, they put it all together over the last few elections.
God help us to get our country back! We know what we have to do, so let us do it!
