New Mormon anti-freeper site and campaign to bankrupt FR
rumor mill | March 29, 2009 | Jim Robinson

Posted on 03/29/2009 2:35:03 PM PDT by Jim Robinson

I understand there is a new anti-freeper site started by disgruntled former and present Mormon FReepers and it is their intention of bankrupting FR during the coming Freepathon by withholding their donations and disrupting our activities. Well, all I can say is, if they feel that badly against FR, by all means they should withhold their donations and drop out of FR. But it they attempt to disrupt our operations I will guarantee they will no longer be members of FR. If that is their wish, so be it.

I'm not going to try to defend FR from their claims of religious persecution, but I will say that Mormons have and always have had free reign to post their threads on FR just as all other religious groups have enjoyed. Free Republic defends the right to freedom of religion and has always welcomed religious discussion and always will. And Mormons have always been welcome here. I have absolutely nothing against Mormons.

If you are one who has left or is leaving, I wish you well, but disruption of FR is not welcome and will not be tolerated.

And this is not the first time such activity has been attempted by groups of disgruntled former FReepers. Good luck with that. There is always some group that feels FR should be bent to their way of thinking and end up saying my way or the highway. Well, I don't know about you, but I'm not changing so I guess it's the highway. Is it Feb 8 yet?

God bless.

[I submit that there is no such thing as “just political.” Our religion informs our political views. As such, it’s going to come up from time to time.]

Well said, and I’ve often said the same. How can you take the source of morality out of political discussion? If we are just looking for someone with the best hair, maybe Scientologist Tom Cruise should give Mitt a run for the money!

*snif*, *snif*...

b-b-but where’s my name? Doesn’t this Obama/Nixon-esque numb-nuts with his “enemies list” know that I too, am virulently anti-mormonISM?!

I’m sure it was just oversight - an honest mistake. Just like all of Joey-boy’s deviant doctrines...not!

LOL!

I have read a ton of Mormon threads over the past year, mostly connected with Mitt Romney’s run for the presidency.

It seems to me that most Freepers have been polite about this. A few have said that the Mormon religion is false, but they regularly say that about Catholics as well, and it’s no skin off my nose as a Catholic.

It was the left-wing media that tried to make Romney’s problems a matter of anti-Mormon bigotry. For the most part, I don’t think it was true. To some extent, Romney’s campaign also raised this issue for political advantage, which I thought was unfortunate. I was opposed to him and favored Fred Thompson, not because Romney is a Mormon, but because he had a poor record on abortion and health care and gay marriage. He tended to say one thing and do another, which has absolutely nothing to do with his being a Mormon.

Hopefully this Mormon campaign against FR will not be the case. It would be very counterproductive, because the chief enemies of the Mormon way of life are not Christians, even if some may say unkind things, but politically correct leftists who have far more power to do damage.

As a Catholic, I don’t believe that all Mormon articles of faith are true; as Mormons, they don’t believe that all Catholic articles of faith are true. That’s why I am Catholic and they are Mormon.

Hopefully, we can recognize this and be polite about it and work together on those issues about which we agree, such as marriage between a man and a woman, family, the right to life, and freedom from tyrannical government suppression of religion. Catholics and Evangelicals have found it advantageous to work together on these issues, although we certainly have our differences. I would hope that Catholics, Orthodox, Protestants, Mormons, and Jews of good faith can all work together, too.

There are bad Catholic politicians like Teddy Kennedy or Nancy Pelosi. There are bad Mormon politicians like Harry Reid. Being critical of Mitt Romney is not, in itself, an attack on the LDS Church.

It would seem as though you have been duped my good FRiend. I don't know the guy that started the site referenced but I can tell you that neither I, nor any other LDS freepers I know here have been contacted. That includes many of the more prominent LDS posters here. I haven't heard one word of this “uprising” & would think I might be on that “list” to be contacted.

Many of us LDS Freepers are often dismayed by the efforts of some of the anti-LDS contingent (which is very vocal but small, & many of which tend to be the same cabal in the anti-Catholic threads as well), but I am one who thinks the “anti” crowd tend to hang themselves here w/ their activities. The “by their fruit ye shall know them” type of thing.

However, it would seem as though this thread could have been avoided by perhaps more thorough investigation. Unless there's more info you have in your possession about the exodus & potential threats against FR brought on by LDS freepers, than one guy w/ a site, then this would seem to be much ado about nothing. A simple FM to any number of us would have put this to sleep w/o causing the potential firestorm.

I, for one, come here for info that has absolutely nothing to do w/ religion most of the time(other than perhaps the battle for the freedom of from time to time). This is your site, we play by your rules. No conspiracy to do otherwise. Next time, please feel free to FM me or others here so we can avoid this kind of very unfortunate type of thread.

did you bother to even READ the facts of that case? There have been MANY who spilled the coffee, which was way too hot to begin with, and McDonald’s KNEW it was too hot.”

Enjoy your iced lattes. There is no such thing as too hot coffee.

Give him time, he only has so much time to gather names when he's not pimping his blog.

Huh? How am I stirring the pot by stating the obvious? There ARE Romney supporters who can not get over the fact that Mitt does not get a whole lot of support here because he isn't a conservative.

I think you are wrong I like Mitt and not much I can do for what others think

Maybe Mitts talents can be used elsewhere I know if he was president we would not be having this bankrupt the nation fest!

This is why I wanted him in office to use the God given talents to turn this around.

But we now all paying the price.

there is a lot of conservative talent rising in the party who is ready we will see!

Thing is I’ve never attacked Mormonism ... I’ve only questioned their theology ... ‘scuse me if that’s wrong ... we’re the ones who are wrong in their eyes .... we’re told to defend the faith once given to the saints, and that’s what I do ... if it hurts their feelings that I defend my faith, well that’s their problem ....

Reno, as you catch up on your reading of this thread, you’ll find a lot of evidence that this guy greg west (aka spamlds) came over as a troll and now using FR to try to expand his social network beyond the 80 or so followers he has.

I’d put him as Sec. of the Treasury, but that’s it. Maybe an economic adviser or FED chairman one day. But nothing more.

Must have been this thread

This is posted directly from the LDS official website. I post threads to inform the public of mormon beliefs, history, doctrine and practices that are not known when the missionaries come knocking on the door.
