I understand there is a new anti-freeper site started by disgruntled former and present Mormon FReepers and it is their intention of bankrupting FR during the coming Freepathon by withholding their donations and disrupting our activities. Well, all I can say is, if they feel that badly against FR, by all means they should withhold their donations and drop out of FR. But it they attempt to disrupt our operations I will guarantee they will no longer be members of FR. If that is their wish, so be it.
I'm not going to try to defend FR from their claims of religious persecution, but I will say that Mormons have and always have had free reign to post their threads on FR just as all other religious groups have enjoyed. Free Republic defends the right to freedom of religion and has always welcomed religious discussion and always will. And Mormons have always been welcome here. I have absolutely nothing against Mormons.
If you are one who has left or is leaving, I wish you well, but disruption of FR is not welcome and will not be tolerated.
And this is not the first time such activity has been attempted by groups of disgruntled former FReepers. Good luck with that. There is always some group that feels FR should be bent to their way of thinking and end up saying my way or the highway. Well, I don't know about you, but I'm not changing so I guess it's the highway. Is it Feb 8 yet?

To: Religion Moderator Fine. And you as a moderator should put an end to all of this anti-Mormon bigotry that develops from the mere mention of Romney’s faith. There are many here who take this kind of thing very “personally.” The tax-exempt and poorly-funded FR appears to foster hate speech in which “Mormons” continuously are accused of things they do not believe and have no connection to. The fact that I am by no means a minority of one is worthy of your notice, as is the fact that FR’s behavior is of interest to other conservative cyber-, print, and broadcast media. My advice to FR is to not continue the process of waking a sleeping tiger. I can walk away from all of this if I choose, or if I am “banned,” but the FR already and irretrievablly has fired the first round in an engagement in which it will not prevail I haven’t the time or the inclination to wage war with a dying blog, but there exist many others who do and have the capability of making FR’s unpleasant encounters with the NY and LA Times trivial by comparison. No threat here, but, instead, some useful information that you surely were not aware of. No, Fred is looking for help in overcoming the few here at FR who do not care if they have there facts correct.
You can disagree with our teachings, but it is not nice the way some make up thing we do not teach and then use that lie as proof we are wrong.

But this was a response to the thread. Where was the threat that led to the thread? I certainly don’t see SPAM being a threat.

That’s an empty threat. Critizing and disputing religion is pretty well litigated since the Scientology cases.
The scientologists only hook was they copyrighted their “sacred” texts and some websites published them, in violation of copyright. That worked until someone attached the alleged improper texts on the back of a motion to dismiss and made the texts public record.

There was no “threat.” Just one fed-up Mormon exercising his own First Amendment rights.
