Lootie is on his way!
Might be a good idea to print this puppy out for the BOB, as this is something that may prove handy to anyone, anywhere, at a future time.
...then again I'm one of those guys who has a checklist for everything except bathroom visits.
...most bathroom visits.
They should all take refuge in the Fargodome and demand their FEMA debit cards!
One can only assume, Obama Hates White People.
Any bets that the people of Fargo fare better than post-Katrina New Orleans citizens? Anyone? Bueller...Bueller....
New Orleans residents should take note - the people of Fargo are working their asses off to save their city and not whining about how the government should be taking care of them.
They began PREPARING after a huge snowfall a month ago - the writing was on the wall after that.
They are evacuating areas BEFORE the dikes give out as a precaution. The only people needing help to evacuate are those working until the last minute to save their homes.
-No looting is taking place
-Evacuaees are not being robbed and raped
-Volunteers are not being robbed or shot at
-The Fargo Dome is not strewn with sewage and garbage, only sand, sandbags, and volunteers.
-The cities have clearly staged evacuation plans and is communicating effectively with residents.
LOL, you beat me too it. I’m wondering when Larry the cable guy or Tater Salad will be on TV screaming “barrack obama hates white people!”
Oh yeah, I didn’t even think of them. He didn’t visit that! Sheesh. Guess he’s too busy screwing up the economy for my grandkids :)
Fargo’s weather has been consistently colder and colder for the last 11 years, according to my local sources.
The Left has already blamed Bush and GW for this...
Although this is a record, serious flooding occurred in about 1968 and 1997 (that flood destroyed much of the downtown area of Grand Forks). My family home is in Fargo (on the North side of town)and safe. Most the area impacted
is on the South side of town in low areas near the river.
On site report: I talked to my brother who lives on the river 10 miles south (Upstream) of Fargo-Moorhead at 11:32 AM local time today and he reports the crest is there at his farm. (Local address 110th Ave S, Moorhead) The water is half way up the topmost sandbags around his house. 1 mile south of him a farmer is reporting a 2 inch drop, and 3 miles south a farmer is reporting a 4 inch drop already. Overnight low was 12 degrees, it is up to 17 degrees. The center channel of the Red River is clear of ice but the calmer areas have ice about 2” thick. There is one more river confluence between there and town (The Wild Rice River) so FM area is close to the crest.
Lileks, is that you?

Moorhead announces more evacuations
The Associated Press - Friday, March 27, 2009
The PC TV news here in Minneapolis call them FLOOD WALLS as not to offend the lesbians: DIKES.
The spirit of all the volunteers working so hard brings a tear to my eye. We don’t always get to see the goodness of the American people.

Fargo Calls for
Volunteers to Shore Up
Levee
Levee at Mickelson Field needs
reinforcement
Created On: Friday, 27 Mar 2009, 11:20 AM CDT
FARGO, N.D. - The city of Fargo put out a desperate call for volunteers to help shore up a levee near Mickelson Field around 11 a.m. Friday.
The call for volunteers to help with the levee follows a revision to the Red River flood crest projection. The river had risen to 40.6 feet early Friday — more than 22 feet above flood stage and inches more than the previous high water mark of 40.1 feet set in 1897.
The Red River was expected to crest as high as 43 feet on Saturday. Fargo’s main dike protects the city at the 43-foot level.
Volunteers able to help fill or place sandbags are asked to walk to the dike in the area of the south side of Mickelson Field. Fargo city staff will be on location to coordinate sandbagging.
The city stressed its request for volunteers to walk, not drive, as trucks will be hauling sandbags and need to get as close to the dike as possible.
Volunteers may also call the Volunteer Hotline at 701-476-4000 for more information.
See my post #34. I grew up on the Red River there by Rustad.
It looks like the crest is very close to the southern edge of Moorhead. The water did not come up at all overnight at 140th S., my brother watched the ice and the pumps. That is about 30 river miles to go, just a few hours’ water flow from the city. If the flow is constricted or if more comes in from the Wild Rice river the level could go up, but the worst is over 10 miles south of town.
No sir, but I’d love to sit down and have a drink with him. He’s an entertaining writer and I imagine he’d be fun to talk with. However, I don’t think he’s going to extend an invite to Jasperwood and I try to stay far away from the Apple store...
