Matthews: Does Palin Think McCain is the 'Anti-Christ?'
NewsBusters ^ | 3/26/09 | Geoffrey Dickens

An offended Chris Matthews, on Thursday night's "Hardball," was so shocked by Sarah Palin's claim that there wasn't anybody to pray with on the McCain campaign, that he hurled multiple insults Palin's way, calling her, "a little scary," and asked if Palin thought McCain was, "the Anti-Christ?" Matthews was appalled by Palin's recent revelation that she had trouble finding someone to pray with before her vice presidential debate and the MSNBC host worried such talk about "The Deity in a political environment," wasn't "normal."

"DAVID CORN, MOTHER JONES MAGAZINE: I remember she was talking there to a meeting of Republicans. So she was dissing John McCain before Republicans. And a lot of McCain aides who worked, who worked with her on the campaign, who are very offended by this. They were around. They say, "Hey I would've prayed with her easily." I mean it was a mean and catty thing to say. I think the big point it shows is that she's not getting good political advice. She's up in Alaska. There have been a lot of Republican consultants and advisers down in Washington who've tried to call, call her and give her some strategic advice. They've all been told, "No thank you, we'll handle it from here." And if this is the best advice they're giving to go out and talk about not being able to pray with John McCain's campaign aides? I mean I don't see the point."

This is exactly what I mean. Way too much is being made of this. These people are such drama queens they are acting like this is the only thing she has said or done in the last couple of months. It's unreal.

I agree. While I am an atheist, I don't find anything weird about Palin's comment.

Would Matthews have said this if a Muslim prayed before a debate and said it was too bad he didn't have someone to pray with?

They're terrified of her. They know that by 2012, she'll be tanned, rested, and ready, so they have to keep up the drumbeat against her. Nothing but the total personal destruction of this amazing, wonderful woman and her familiy will suffice in their eyes.

Not only is it not going to let up, it's going to get worse.

I guess Chrissy has never read the founding fathers if he thinks its not “normal” for people to do this and talk about prayer. Maybe he doesn’t know that the congress opens each day with one? Military exercises too? Hmmm. Maybe Chrissy tingled himself. I hope hannity or beck pick this one up.....

I think the Republican "good-old-boy-network" in Washington doesn't want to see Palin come back - she scares them as badly as she scares the liberals and they are all out to destroy her. I'm glad to hear she's not taking their advice, she has good instincts - she can handle herself just fine.

You’ve got that right. Meanwhile, they are acting like idiots bringing up her “windshield wiper” hand wave, yet meanwhile a guy who consorted with known terrorists and others of very questionable reputation was ELECTED. Just reminds me of how twisted things are.... Maybe she wanted to pray like some of my friends pray and it lasts more than a few minutes too... a lot of people are verry uncomfortable with this. I invited a friend to a Women’s Conference once (a Christian one) and she wouldn’t even drive with me... she ended up ditching me... couldn’t handle a few thousand women with their hands up in worship. What can I say?

Eventually, yes. It is my opinion that leftists can't see anything higher than government. Group think, group ideology but dictator ruled. A "Higher Power" such as God and praying to something bigger and larger than government for help? Preposterous!!! We can NEVER be individuals and led or influenced by something that can't be regulated.
I think that is why Communists hate religion so much.

I used to think remarks like that were perhaps a bit over the top. I was dead wrong. They are. Rightly so.

My opinion is that Palin needs to run as an Independent. Completely free of the stench of the two-party cartel. You’re right, Republicans are trying to destroy her just like the Dems, and I can easily see a scenario where they change the primary rules or encourage cross-over voting.
