Warning: 'Antichrist' movie tricking Christians
wnd ^ | 3/25/09 | Joe Kovacs

An online movie documenting the close ties between ancient pagan religions and today's Christianity is "antichrist" in nature, destroying the faith of believers by combining some astonishing truth with plenty of error.

That's the claim of a Christian historian and author who, ironically, has himself been educating the public about the impact heathen sun worship has had on traditional Christianity.

Richard Rives, author of "Time is the Ally of Deceit" and "Too Long in the Sun," is sounding the alarm about "Zeitgeist," a 2007 documentary written and narrated by Peter Joseph, a freelance film editor, composer and producer in New York City.

Literally meaning "spirit of the time," "Zeitgeist" was released on DVD and the Internet, and Joseph claims it has been viewed more than 50 million times on Google Video, and more than 100 million times when other formats and public screenings are taken into account.

Hmmm, from the article:

An online movie documenting the close ties

the claim of a Christian historian and author

Assumptive argumentation right there. Connotatively, the movie documents, as in tells the truth, while the Christian historian claims,as in may, or may not be true.

“Those who tossed their faith in Jesus never had any faith to begin with.”

True. Christ Himself said, speaking of believes, that it is impossible to lose true faith in Him.

“My Father, who has given the to Me, is greater than all;
no one can snatch them out of My Father’s hand.
I and the Father are one.”

“close ties between ancient pagan religions and today’s Christianity”

a claim debunked many times. See Josh McDowell’s books.

No ancient deity ever died and came to life again to save his followers from their sins.

Look up Horus and Mithra in Wikipedia and you will not find the Christ-resembling elements that Peter Joseph attributes to them mentioned.

I think the reason that religious gadflys point to Mithras often when trying to undercut Christianity is the whole notion of December 25th being Mithras' birthday.

Mithraism and Christianity were two competing religions during the Roman Empire, and it's possible that they shared, borrowed, stole, etc. different traditions from each other. Christianity won out in the end mostly because of its universality and allowance of women into the fold, whereas Mithraism was more of a male-only secret society.

Since Dec. 25th isn't in the Bible though, I don't see how this alone could shake someone's faith.

faith is the strongest thing in the human arsenal - particularly if it is grounded in the correct Source.

Wow. Is Christianity really so fragile?

Well, there's Christianity and there's "Christianity".

What’s up with this “Zeitgeist” crap?

It's the standard Bilderberg, illuminati, etc. crap rehashed for today's on-the-go youth!

“Faith is fragile”.

I would respectfully disagree. True faith is not fragile.

satan tries to counterfeit everything God does. It does not surprise me that pagan religions carry an echo of Truth.

"Wow. Is Christianity really so fragile?"

Christianity is not, but individuals are. Witness the number of people who thought "Davinci Code" was a documentary.

Virgin births in mythology are the norm, not the exception

As noted in post #13, that isn't true. It's just another modern myth.

“Every second larda** college-aged know-it-all I encounter gushes about this super-secret,..” [knowledge that the rest of world has missed.]

I can't speak for everyone, but like myself at that age, I think it's a pretty common phenomenon of youth.

They are easily seduced into believing that something THEY hadn't heard of before is new and original. The concept that the idea or information is very old and rejected as false/unuseful by earlier generations is completely impossible to them.

It appeals to their egos and their tendency to think they're smarter than their elders.

As noted in post #13, that isn't true. It's just another modern myth.

There's few societies where a virgin birth, miraculous birth, or impregnation by a deity is absent. It's the norm.

A very good antidote for this cr@p is the book

“The Case for the Real Jesus” by Lee Strobel.

I highly recommend it to everyone; it will give you plenty of ammo to intellectually defeat any naysayer.
