Whatever happened to reading, writing, and arithmetic? A government commissioned overhaul of elementary schools in the United Kingdom would make learning about blogging, Twitter, Wikipedia, and podcasting mandatory. National history? Well, that's covered in secondary school so it's up to the teachers to decide whether or not to teach it in elementary school. Oh, and they have to choose between teaching about World War II or Queen Victoria. Huh?

Whereas Seattle schools have mandatory recycling education, gay history, sex education and a quarter on Global Warming to take out any form of real history class...
great let’s teach technologies that will be outdated in a few months
zOMG! The next thing you know they’ll be sending them to Encyclopedia Dramatica for their thesis!
I can see it now. A major in YouPorn.
Morons. Kids are already better at that stuff than adults. So what’s the government going to do? It’s going to pour millions of dollars into teaching 50-year-old teachers how to Twitter, just so they can turn around and teach this useless skill to kids who already know how to do it anyway.
well, they WILL learn how to copy and paste from liberalpedia, Islamopedia well. They’ll be highly skilled.
Might be a good thing. Get the kids seriously internet-literate early, and they’ll be bumping into all sorts of unapproved ideas about history and politics before they get to high school.
Are you serious? Seattle schools have that? And it’s mandatory? Could you provide a link?
Slightly sarcastic, actually, but it would not surprise me if most of that list turned out to be true.
History repeats itself. Objective history is needed today.
If I read this right, being schooled by Wikipedia is stupid. It's not accurate. I don't know about Twitter but the name alone has me concerned.
Next week I will be going to a home school fair and stocking up on what I need for core subjects, Grammar, Math, Science and History and some other subjects such as Economics, Government, logic and Critical Thinking. I will have them for grade 5-12.
I want our child to be one of those still “educated”. I highly recommend others to do the same. Stock up on what you may need for future grades for your child. The really push the trash in public school and some liberal private schools.
This is awful:
Here is a sampling of the changes:
“Children to leave primary school familiar with blogging, podcasts, Wikipedia and Twitter as sources of information and forms of communication. They must gain “fluency” in handwriting and keyboard skills, and learn how to use a spellchecker alongside how to spell.”
” Every child would learn two key periods of British history but it would be up to the school to decide which ones. Schools would still be able to opt to teach Victorian history or the second world war, but they would not be required to. The move is designed to prevent duplication with the secondary curriculum, which covers the second world war extensively.”
Recent poll of Americans show only 53% believe that capitalism is better than socialism. Given that a portion of those didn't know what they were selecting, that means that less than half of our population is really positive on capitalism over socialism.
Thank the LIBERALS.
In public schools capitalism is shunned.
In LIBERAL private schools the same is true.
