ROMNEY: Cautionary tale of card check Mitt Romney Wednesday, March 25, 2009

** FILE ** Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney. Mr. Romney submitted a column to The Washington Times as part of the Reinventing Conservatism series. (Astrid Riecken/The Washington Times)

ANALYSIS/OPINION: (Part of our Reinventing Conservatism series)

In 2006, my last year as governor of Massachusetts, I vetoed a card-check bill that allowed public workers to organize if a majority signed union authorization cards as opposed to casting a traditional secret ballot. The veto was a gain for the rights of employees and employers to a fair election, but the victory was short-lived.

She didn’t ‘save’ you from anything.?

Just for the record, I'm a "he", from the remote mountains and ridges of western Virginia. Hence, my nom de guerre, Virginia Ridgerunner.

Oh my. I love how you guys are calling me all sorts of nastiness based on a one positive comment and one thread! Yet you ask ME to refer to all of your others posts other than this thread and judge you by that? That’s rich! Hypocrisy is a nasty, nasty thing.

Oh. Now I am a liberal troll. LOL. Then why pray tell am I no zotted and banned? I bet if I look into your previous posts this is included in your regular bag of insults you threw at people instead of just arguing and stating your point and moving on. All hat no cattle.

The only reason at this point I continue on is to defend myself against the insults. Me thinks you like the attention one and two that you just plainly can't argue your own points of view very well. That is okay keep stealing others words and then flame throw the insults. So other's don't get to close to see if it is just parrot or there is really a foundation there that you can articulate intelligently. You are not fooling anyone.

Card Check=USSR. I do not care who hates me for it, I wish Mitt would have won our primary and I also think he could have beat Obama. He is the man that would have done a fantastic job as president with the problems we are now confronted with. He is also an excellent communicator. Flame away. Mitt is and has been in the trenches for us all along.

I have to ask: Why do you think people hate you? You seem to be equaling people who disagree strenuously with people who hate. People disagreeing with you politically isn't hatred and it isn't flaming.

Is there a reason for this?

Do you feel as though there is some sort of point to be gained by making yourself or your candidate the underdog?

I haven't seen any hatred, just conservatives who really dislike Mitt Romney because Mitt Romney isn't conservative. He isn't. On his best day, he's sort of squishy-moderate. Saying so doesn't make it hatred. Pointing it out doesn't make it hatred. Political dialogue isn't hatred.

I love how you guys are calling me all sorts of nastiness based on a one positive comment and one thread!

I challenge you to show me precisely where on this thread I have called you any name or insulted you personally.

Since you're not going to leave this alone, I'll say this:

My reasons for opposing Romney are the same as Jim Robinson's---Romney is a slimy, pro-abortion, pro-big government liberal who will say anything and do anything to get elected President. He talks out of both sides of his mouth and his scorched-earth tactics against rival Republicans are reprehensible.

I'll take it one step further by saying that in addition to these issues over his poor record and past statements and counter-statements, my personal beef with Romney is over how he and his associates tried to push the true Conservative Sarah Palin out of the VP slot just after McCain selected her, and again after the GOP convention, when the lib smear attacks began to hurt her. The whispering campaign against Governor Palin within GOP circles by Team Romney continued throughout the campaign season and continues today because she is the biggest threat to HIS presidential ambitions in 2012, as well as to Obama's re-election.

That's why I have no use for Romney and never will...

Like I said before, I'm at work and can't provide you with the evidence for my statements here right now, but my FRiend Diogenesis has the specific reports and stories on file concerning Team Romney's underground campaign against Romney and can certainly post them here ONCE AGAIN at his convenience.

Now, if you excuse me, I have to get back to a report I'm working on...

I made my case in my very first post to you, troll. I pointed out that Willard opposed the two most successful conservative policy endeavors of the last 30 years --- Reaganism and the Contract With America. I think that speaks for itself. This forum doesn't exist to debate liberalism or the liberal legacy of Myth Romney either, Ms.Liberal.

Romney would have been far, far better than what we got.

I want to give Mitt the benefit of the doubt regarding his change over the last couple of years...but really, for me to ever actively support him, several years of him standing by those new positions, particularly as regards abortion, are going to have to go by when he does so with no hope or attachment to higher office.

Then, after that proof is in the pudding, I might support him in a run for the Presidency.

For now, individuals like Duncan Hunter, who have a much stronger and longer track record in that regard have my supprt...including Sarah Palin.

Having said all of that...I return to my initial statement. Romney would have been far better than the abject marxist we got.

THE AUDACITY OF TRUTH ABOUT BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA

BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA IN HIS OWN WORDS

NOW WE KNOW WHAT A COMMUNITY ORGANIZER DOES

OBAMA, THE STOCK MARKET, AND ENERGY

THE AUDACITY OF TRUTH ABOUT BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA'S UPBRINGING

IT'S TIME FOR A RETURN TO THE OLD SCHOOL

personal attacks followed all those posts. I don't equal disagreement no matter how strong as hate as you have accused me of. I do however consider personal attacks and name calling that ensued hateful. I would have enjoyed the active disagreement. Instead I have spent most of my time defending myself against personal insults name calling and asking for such active intelligent disagreement. And now I have to go as I have spent upwards of 12 hours not discussing political discourse but defending myself alone I might add and you say--coming in at the final hour, that what has been happening here is active political disagreement when the reality is it has mostly been parlaying unintelligent attacks that have no principles, rare intelligent discussion, or no Godly values displayed with disagreement.

12 hours of my time is enough for one subject. Calling me all sorts of names and attacking my values etc without taking on the political subject is not political discourse at least not for intelligent, principled, thoughtful people.

But don't take my word for it. I would like for you to take all the names I have been called and accusations that have been made against me (not Romney as you wrongly say has been going on here!) and have a 'discussion' with your loved ones such as friends and family maybe co-workers and tell me how 'intelligently' those discussions turns out with all of those things I have been called as well as the accusation all at one person and don't forget a one otherwise it will not be a true experiment.

With the name calling and avoidance of intelligent discussion with personal attacks an false accusation alone you will not be having a discussion at all but a fight. Try it and get back to me and tell me all about how your fantasized tea and crumpets political discourse goes when the names start flying at just one person along with the false accusation.

I appreciate your thoughts and must say, I too prefer a solid died in the wool conservative of long standing and record, much as we demanded of Bush when he was picking a new justice for the supreme court. He offered one solution and we demanded a record, a history, a commitment to conservative ideals, principles etc.

To me this is the ideal and desired candidate. One that can articulate conservatism clearly and intelligently to the world as their actions follow these ideals and words. Nothing sell people as seeing the positive results. Yet I am not seeing it out there in the complete package.

I do not want to clog Jim's posts, but will as you brought him into the discussion. So I will say once again ReaganMan. After this all accusations and name calling toward me that can not be intelligently argued and proven as such need to be dropped as for no other reason than they have been proved false by my continued presence at a contributing member of FR. I said:

Oh. Now I am a liberal troll.

You said

Got that right. And I thank Jim for keeping you around. You make a nice target.

Jim if this is true what ReaganMan has said then please do me a favor and support a zot against me now and also suspend my account. I know it is not true and my posts accentuate and prove in a variety of arenas that this is not true.

Now is the time to end such false accusations. If I am zotted and suspended ReaganMan then you are right. Otherwise drop the personal attacks and name calling against me.

ReaganMan you did make good points there and if true I am with you. You should have stuck to such points and left the personal attacks and insults out of it. It sort of piled on them and lost anything gained by your good points. I still wonder how and who appointed you (ReaganMan) as the police around here.

Jim. Where is ReaganMan's special FR badge or FR star for being somehow more authoritative and special--as he certainly thinks he has one.

Diogenesis’ postings have been proven disingenuous so many times — two prime examples of that on this very thread. It would be foolish not to question what he posts.
