My wife was naturalized into a US citizen today. It was a rather bitter-sweet experience.
It started out with the star spangled banner and some patriotic songs.
Then they listed the countries of the 192 new citizens. Unfortunately, Somalia and Ethiopia had the most citizens (about 40 each), Vietnam and Thailand both had about 25. Surprisingly, my wife was one of the few hispanics. I guess, why bother doing that pain in the butt for something you can get the same benefits for nothing. Probably a handful of Caucasians getting naturalized but there sure were a lot of burcas!
Some liberal woman judge gave the speech that ticked me off immensely. She told the new citizens that our country's strength is based on "diversity and tolerance". No reference to liberty, duty, responsibility, sacrifice, loyalty of course. What the heck exactly is tolerance anyhow? You can only have tolerance for something annoying or bad can't you?
This hag then told everyone that our "democracy only works when everyone gets involved in the political like we saw back in November"
Next, they played a video of Obama speaking--I'm pretty sure it was his inauguration speech, which sucked since I took pride in missing this "historic event". At this time, I let my 2 year old loose and run around like a pill until this video was over.
The service ended with the music "I'm proud to be an American" song playing which raised my spirits a bit.
Sadly, I bet a very small number of those new Americans will be Sarah Palin voters in 2012.
By the way! Thank you too all Freepers for all your kind words of Congratulations!!
Welcome to America!
Congrats!!
Congratulations to you and your wife!
My husband is a naturalized citizen from Cuba.

Psalm 15ML/NJA psalm of David.
1 LORD, who may dwell in your sanctuary?
Who may live on your holy hill?2 He whose walk is blameless
and who does what is righteous,
who speaks the truth from his heart3 and has no slander on his tongue,
who does his neighbor no wrong
and casts no slur on his fellowman,4 who despises a vile man
but honors those who fear the LORD,
who keeps his oath
even when it hurts,5 who lends his money without usury
and does not accept a bribe against the innocent.
He who does these things
will never be shaken.
LOL! I'm up for it. Friends have told me that the courthouse has a sweet set-up for jurors...a library, several TVs, free coffee and snacks, internet access and cushy furniture. Plus my employer pays me in full.
Congrats!
I agree with you completely on the diversity and tolerance issue. Of course tolerance is a good quality to have when living in a society, and diversity - sure, why not....but these are not goals in and of themselves. What kind of a nation could exist if its primary goal was tolerance? That’s absurd. We practice tolerance as we pursue our nation’s goal of ensuring freedom and the God-given rights of individuals. I’ve grown very tired of hearing the liberal claptrap that says exactly what your judge said. Ugh.
But the important thing is that your wife is a brand-new citizen - cool!
Excellent observation!
Congratulations to Mrs. Dude! I’ve found that converted Catholics and new citizens both can teach us all a lot about our faith/country! All the best to her!
Congratulations!!!! She is as American as apple pie. You must be very proud of her.
Wonderful news! Congratulations to her!!!
Congrats! Welcome her for all of us.
Congratulations to your wife. I was naturalized in 1956...
I used to say the same thing and then they called me.
Congratulate her for us!! Glad you are there to keep her on the right path.
