WASHINGTON (AFP) The White House Wednesday announced a new task force headed by former Federal Reserve chairman Paul Volcker to reform the Byzantine US tax code in the hope of recouping billions in lost revenue.
White House budget chief Peter Orszag said Volcker and four other top economists will report their recommendations back to President Barack Obama by December 4, and their review will cover three main areas.
"One is tax simplification, the second is closing tax loopholes and reducing tax evasion, and the third is reducing corporate welfare," the director of the Office of Management and Budget told reporters.

Exactly. Lefties and foreigners with lots of donation money will be exempt.
notice the underlying assumption that it’s theirs to begin with and anything we keep is “lost revenue”?
They’ll avoid bringing race into the issue,
but there are lots of criteria that leave race out but end up with exactly the same people on the “giving” and “receiving” ends of taxation.
It would be nice, I have a monster tax bill this year.. however, I know that I can’t be effective, either for my family or the country, sitting in a jail cell.
Not exactly a good idea to telegraph your intentions.
There are lots of LEGAL ways to avoid instead of evade.
Most people don’t use them.
If they did, Congress/IRS would act to make them unavailable to us.
My prediction is that the percentage of simplification will be inversely proportional to the percentage of lawyers on the “task force”.
will they address the Rangel Rule?
...yeah they’ll “overhaul” it all right..any (D) is a tax exempt nonprofit...
And Michelle and Barak are all about the Fairrrrrness!
My prediction is that it will be the most expensive simplification the US taxpayer has ever seen.
I’ve been concerned about what you’re referring to as well.
God commands us to submit to the authorities that he has placed over us, with the exception that they require something He forbids or forbid something He requires.
Using the fruit of our labor to murder the unborn certainly qualifies.
“My prediction is that it will be the most expensive simplification the US taxpayer has ever seen.”
I sure wouldn’t disagree with that. Remember President Bush’s panel on tax simplification? Wan’t that in 05? They took a year (almost), held hearings, took input from the American people, listened to testimony from expert witnesses and their report ended up being ignored (for good reason) by the WH.
Talk about a colossal waste of time and money!!!
Sadly, they had a chance and enough control to really make some powerful changes. Bush just wouldn’t push it. I don’t know why.
“Bush just wouldnt push it. I dont know why.”
I know why - because the special interests which control DC wouldn’t stand for it. The R’s are just as much under their control as the D’s are.
The Independence Caucus has done an excellent job of following the money trail for two US congressmen (one D and one R) and laying the whole sordid case out.
