Obama Years Ago Helped Fund Carbon Scheme He Is Now Pushing Through Congress
FoxNews.com ^ | 3/25/2009 | Ed Barnes

While on the board of a Chicago-based charity, Barack Obama helped fund a carbon trading exchange that will likely play a critical role in the cap-and-trade carbon reduction scheme he is now trying to push through Congress as president.

In 2000 and 2001, while Barack Obama served as a board member for a Chicago-based charitable foundation, he helped to fund a pioneering carbon trading exchange that is likely to fill a critical role in the controversial cap-and-trade carbon reduction scheme that President Obama is now trying to push rapidly through Congress.

During those two years, the Joyce Foundation gave nearly $1.1 million in two separate grants that were instrumental in developing and launching the privately-owned Chicago Climate Exchange, which now calls itself "North America's only cap and trade system for all six greenhouse gases, with global affiliates and projects worldwide."

One of those gases is carbon dioxide, the most ubiquitous greenhouse gas and the focus of the most far-reaching -- and contentious -- efforts to combat "climate change." On Monday, Obama's Environmental Protection Agency declared carbon dioxide a public health threat.

The President of the Joyce Foundation in 2000, when the foundation made its first grant to the Climate Exchange was Paula DiPerna, who is now executive vice president of the Chicago Climate Exchange, in charge of corporate recruitment and public policy, as well as president of CCX International.

It’s the same old story. If you want to know what is behind any political thinking, just “follow the money”. It’s always about the money.

You are absolutely correct about that one. I always tell people to follow the money...perfect examples were AIG, Freddie and Fannie...

Global warming is a hoax. Without greenhouse gases the earth would be too cold for humans. A major greenhouse gas is WATER VAPOR. Carbon dioxide is present in the atmosphere in only trace amounts — currently about 380 parts per million. The recent trend is global cooling, not warming. The whole cap & trade plan is idiocy.

Well, Duh. Of course he did. Here are the other Special Interests he’ll be advocating for. A leopard does NOT change his spots, People!

Barrack Hussein Obama, Special Interest Group Ratings:

Planned Parenthood - 100% Support
National Right To Life - 0% Support
NARAL - 100% Support
Americans for Tax Reform - 0% Support
ACLU - 83% Support
NEA - 100% Support
NOW Hags - 100% Support
Citizens Against Government Waste - 13% Support
Gun Owners of America - 0% Support
NRA - “F” Rating
Federation for American Immigration Reform - 0% Support
US Border Patrol - 8% Support
Unions - 82% - 100% Support
Population Connection - 100% Support (These are the ‘Zero Growth’ freaks)

[Barrack Hussein Obama’s record in the Illinois senate:]

- Opposed the Defense of Marriage Act; would work to repeal it in the U.S. Senate; would not vote for any legislation that would restrict the ability of gays and lesbians to marry.

- Opposed the Born Alive Infant Protection Act four times in Illinois. A similar bill passed the U.S. Senate 98-0. The Born Alive bill would have prohibited a baby from being born alive but left to die according to the mother’s wishes. Obama inexplicably opposed this bill not once, twice, or three times, but four times.

- Obama took almost $90,000 in bundled contributions from the Council for a Livable World. The council is a well-known anti-defense organization.

- Obama puts rigid ideology before what’s best for the people of Illinois, and presumably he would do that as President as well. He has on several occasions made public his opposition to the NAFTA trade agreement and his belief that it must be negotiated. All the while thanks to NAFTA, Illinois exports $1.3 billion in agricultural goods to Canada.

- Obama refused to vote for a bill in the Illinois State Senate that would have increased penalties for drug traffickers.

- Obama voted against a bill that would have delivered the death penalty to gang members who murder first responders.

- Finally, just in case you thought it couldn’t get any worse, Obama was the only member of the Illinois State Senate to vote against a bill that prohibited early release for sexual predators.

Can’t kill the innocent fast enough, can’t free the guilty soon enough!

will the media “follow the money” on these human gasbags selling “carbon credits” and enriching themselves by taxing every American on every form and outcome of energy use??

the boy president is transfixed and determined to use doublethink doublespeak and charm to achieve his budget goal of $2 TRILLION in energy taxes- from whose economy?

Good examples. Just check out who the recipients were of their campaign contributions. The same hypocrits who are claiming “outrage”.

Correct. And it sure is not about reducing pollution. I see no way a piece of paper will reduce the emissions. In fact producing the paper causes more pollution.

cap and trade system for all six greenhouse gases

Is water vapor one of those six green house gases?

If they were serious about reducing CO2 emissions, I guess it should start with preventing all mammals from breathing.

I’ve wondered when some connection would be made between current politics and the climate change BS.
Clearly the climate change garbage has paid salaries for a number of unscrupulous and unethical “scientists” - including some at NASA apparently protected from peer challange.
But aside from ALGORE and his carbon extortion company, I wondered where the bigger connections were. Now we see just a glimmer.

Senator Richard Lugar was one of the first to register on this exchange.

The Lugar Stock Farm planted 604 acres of black walnut trees to sell on the exchange.

Does anyone think this is for the climate or just another new market legislated by those who own the product, setting the rules for thier own gain?

There was a little company down in Houston that had plans to trade carbon credits on their trading floor, Enron.

Did some research and as I suspected water vapor is not a green house gas of concern.

Carbon dioxide (CO2): CO2 is produced naturally by living organisms and by the burning of fossil fuels. Carbon accounts for the largest share of US greenhouse gas emissions. In 1990, the CO2 emissions were approximately 85% of the total, although the carbon sinks in forested lands offset CO2 emissions by about 8%. Worldwide carbon emissions have grown by about 27% since the industrial revolution.

Nitrous Oxide (N2O): Naturally occurring, N2O is produced by fuel burning and in fertilizer manufacturing. In 1990, N2O accounted for about 2.5% of US emissions. Global Warming Potential (GWP): 310 times greater than CO2.

Methane: Methane comes from coal formations and from landfills, livestock digestive processes, decomposing waste, and wetland rice cultivation. In 1990, methane accounted for almost 12% of the US total emissions. Global warming potential: About 21 times higher than that of CO2.

Hydrofluorocarbon gases (HFC): These gases were developed largely as an alternative to ozone-damaging chlorofluorocarbons (CFC) banned under the 1987 Montreal Protocol. HFCs do not damage the ozone layer, but they do contribute to global warming. They are used largely in refrigeration and as in semi-conductor manufacturing. Global warming potential: 140 to 11,700 times that of CO2.

Perfluorocarbons (PFC): Result as a by-product aluminum smelting, and uranium enriching. Also are manufactured to replace CFCs in making semi-conductors. Global warming potential: 7,400 times CO2.

Sulphur Hexafluoride (SF6): Largely used in heavy industry to insulate high-voltage equipment and to assist the manufacturing of cable cooling systems. Global warming potential: 23,900 times that of CO2.

Sources: U.S. Energy Information Agency, International Energy Agency, Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
