In the ongoing debate over the economic stimulus package, South Carolina Republican Gov. Mark Sanford has made all the right enemies. The White House has brushed aside Sanfords threat to turn down $700 million allotted for his state. Republicans in Sanfords own state have hinted that theyll override any attempt to veto the cash. Moderate California Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has gently mocked Sanfords position. Ill take it, Schwarzenegger told George Stephanopolous last month. Im more than happy to take his money or any other governor in this country that doesnt want to take this money.
Sanfords public battle with the White House has won him support with a more important group of people: the Republicans who will pick their next standard-bearer in 2012. According to some big-money Republican donors, party strategists who worked on the 2008 campaign and activists who powered the quixotic presidential bid of Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas), Sanford is emerging as the leader for the next Republican nomination.
His profile has grown dramatically over the last month, said Floyd Brown, a Republican strategist who lives in Washington state best-known for creating the 1988 Willie Horton ads against Michael Dukakis. Amongst the activists who really matter, in Iowa, in New Hampshire, in the South, there is a lot of positive talk about him. A lot of people asking, What do you know about this guy?

OBAMA, YOU BIG DUMMY!.........................
“I’m not saying that Sanford should be the GOP nominee...”
I am.
Sanford and Palin are looking very good.
If you can cure him from his algorian fantasies, he might have a shot.
Looter's mentality.
Sanford? No thanks.
-Wrong on Defense and Foreign policy (against Operation Iraqi Freedom, against preemptive strikes).
-Wrong on “climate policy” (Sanford is a believer in the “man made global warming” scam)
-Called those who want Obama to fail “idiots”. Either he is a coward or at least politically clueless and can’t guard his mouth.
No Sanford for me, although I acknowledge that he is one of the better Governors in the US. No presidential material though.
If you can cure him from his algorian fantasies, he might have a shot.

Pissant, unimportant to me. If he stays on message and gains popularity, he can be a stalking horse. He might push others into the right direction- that would be a good thing.
I’m with you. My intuition is telling me that people are pushing Sanford because they find Palin not sophisticated enough or too strong on the social issues.
Bingo.
Climate change fanatic. Eco-nut. Cap-and-trade dissembler.
Sanford?
No thanks...

Sanford supports Global Warming
Sanford called those who don’t want Obama to succeed, IDIOTS
Rush Responds To Sanford Calling Him An Idiot
Feb 26, 2009
LIMBAUGH: I am told South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford called me an idiot, not by name. But he said, Anyone who wants Obama to fail is an idiot.
I dont anybody else who said it. So, I guess hes talking about Politicians have different audiences than I do and theyve got to say things in different ways. So, after he said, Anyone who wants Obama to fail is an idiot, then went on in his own way to say, Gosh, I hope this doesnt work.
He just had to say, We dont want the president to fail.
Hell we dont! We want something to blow up here politically. We want something to not go right.
Were talking about freedom that is under assault!
Mark Sanford Also believes as does the far left that we sholdn’t have fought in Iraq or Afghanistan.
He believes in the Pat Buchanan bunker mentality
Yep. I have the feeling that some consider Palin to be “broken” by the MSM (or due to her “unsophisticated” background) and think that Sanford would escape such scrutiny. Such thinking is self-defeating. The liberal media will ALWAYS try to destroy any challenge. We have to fight against and past them. I’ll take the real deal, rather than a globull warming hysterical, isolationist, loudmouth.
I’m not saying Mark Sanford cannot gain the GOP nomination for POTUS in 2012 but if he keeps polling only in the single digits he will remain in the second tier and never gain enough traction to compete as a major player.
Once he reaches 15%, if ever, I will then admit that he has a fighter’s chance.
Very important to me. No global socialist fantasies.
Here is a good rule of thumb. In inverse proportion, whoever the MSM locks on to and sings his/her praises, the less likely that GOP candidate has any chance to beat the Democrats or Obama.
In 2012 I think that moderates and conservatives will not be able to agree on a candidate, and that whomever gets the nomination will only have the support of about 2/3 of the already spavined Republican electorate.
By 2016, the true conservatives will have split off, as will the Far Left lunatics. Mainstreamers from the Democratic and Republican parties will form a centrist bloc under the Dem Label, and will attempt to govern from a reasoned moderate perspective, while the Far left and Far Right will find common causes.
Big mistake to imply or say that Rush Limbaugh is an idiot.
Thank you for your input. Global warming, anti-war, anti-Rush. Got it. Those are certainly factors that I’ll consider when 2012 comes round. Thanks.
She’s not that strong on the social issues, I like her, but Sanford is more conservative.
Both L Ron Paul and Sanford are RINOs as they support Libertarian, anti war, global warming, legalize marajuana,
etc.
