The parents of an American peace activist who was severely injured by Israeli forces at a demonstration in the occupied West Bank called on the Israeli government today to take "full responsibility" for the shooting.
Tristan Anderson, 38, was hit in the forehead by a high-velocity teargas canister fired by an Israeli border policeman in the village of Nilin earlier this month. The incident came after a demonstration against Israel's West Bank barrier, which as elsewhere has cut off a large slice of the village's agricultural land.
Since last July, four Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces in similar demonstrations in the village.
Anderson was rushed to the Tel Hashomer hospital in Israel, where he has already had three operations. He lost the sight in his right eye and doctors had to remove portions of his frontal lobe. It is not clear if he will survive, or how much brain damage he may have suffered.
His parents, Nancy and Michael, who flew out from their home near Sacramento in California to be at his bedside, said he remained in a "very critical condition" in a medically induced coma.
"We are horrified and overwhelmed," said Nancy Anderson. "We are scared and really still in shock. To shoot peaceful demonstrators is really horrifying to us. What we want to ask is that the Israeli government publicly take full responsibility for the shooting of our son."
She said no Israeli official, from either the government or the military, had contacted the couple since their son was hurt. "I don't carry any negative feelings towards the soldier who shot our son," she said. "All I feel is love for Tristan and fear for his recovery."

Note to self. “Self. Never stand between the Israelis and Palestinians.”
“Thirty-eight years old!
What was his business model? Had he found a way to find job security as a full-time globe-trotting rabble rouser?”
We used to call them “underemployed bums” ... now, I suppose it’s “community activist”.
Heres a tip ... keep your sniveling kid at home next time.”
This “peaceful” person is one of the tree sitters in Berkley that were in the trees for over a year. He is unemployed—and I would guess basically unemployAB LE- and someone is funding his lifestyle.
I have no use for him nor his parents. They created this piece of trash, and now they are getting their rewards.
I've got a related question... WHO was paying for this globe-trotting, unproductive lifestyle? IF I had someone with a fat wallet paying for me to trot around the world - I can think of more beneficial endeavors than hanging with terrorists!
I thought Tristan was a girls name, I still think it is!

Tristans major problem is he has parents that still think of him as a child at the age of 38.”
Someone has been supporting this POS for the past 38 years.
Whom do we think is the major contributors to that life style of his?
DUCK.
Pancake Ping.
A forehead "bonk", works for me.....LOL!
Hey, man! That's Obama's gig!
Growing up we had a saying for when things like this occurred. We would just look at each other, shrug, and say “sh*t happens.” and go about our business as usual.
Nowadays everyone has to be a victim. If I were hit in the head with a teargas canister like this idiot was my parents would be sad, but they would also be embarrassed to have raised me ending up like that.
David Fenton and Fenton Communications, most likely.
When someone is fighting for their life and survival, thinkgs are not "pretty"...things are not "just so"...things are not fuzzy.
The Isralies have been doing this...and IMHO, understandably so...for decades. Your son knew this...you knew this...and yet he went anyway. He's a grown man, he went to a violent place and suffered the consequences.
While your pain at the injury to your son is understandable...place the blame where it lies. With him for choosing to be in such a place where such incidents happen.
Besides...he chose the wrong side.
LOL.
The desert was barren for hundreds of years while the faux-'Palestinians' owned it. The Jewish people came in and worked it, invested in it, and made it bloom. (And I have to note, didn't spend all their time screaming wide-eyed about how the PAAAALLLELLSESTINIANAAAAAAANS had oppressed them.) While you squatted the land, you did nothing.
And when, finally, a misguided and well-intended (and pathetically gullible) Israeli leadership thought it could buy peace with madmen and gave you fully developed chunks of land, the first thing you did was smash perfectly running and profitable greenhouses all to hell, because, after all, they were once owned by JOOOOOOOOOOOSE! This tells me you would rather starve to death complaining about history a thousand years ago than live in today and feed your families.
Please, let me explain in small words...here in America, although we have occasional troubles, our poor people are fat. We have defeated most disease, to the point we almost have to invent medical problems to cure. We have gone from glider to space travel in a hundred years of science. We invented air conditioning, the car, and the personal computer, and again, we are so overblessed we eat for entertainment.
You might ask how we do this, Mr. Wild-eyed Terrorist. Well, our arguments mostly only go back a hundred years or so, and we would rather do business with our neighbor than kill him. Serious, the Japanese killed my uncle fifty years ago, and it means nothing to me...and I still buy their electronics. The English threw my ancestors off their family farms and they ended up in the freest, richest country on Earth so I say, Thanks! And when we encounter personal problems and setbacks, we try to learn from them, not just blame them on the JOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSE!
Seriously, your Moon-cult hasn't invented anything useful in a thousand years. Stop killing each other over what Allah says you should have for breakfast, and certainly start copying the industrious Jews rather than blowing up pizza parlors full of school kids. And also, stop electing moron Imams and crooked leaders who want you dead for kiteflying and take all the aid money and hide it in offshore accounts (and then blaming US when you're screwed.) Put that into action, and you may yet become something people will be impressed by.
