EDITORIAL: Dodd lied about AIG bonuses (CT Paper Actually Goes After Dodd)
The New Haven Register ^ | March 20, 2009 | Editorial

Posted on 03/23/2009 9:45:44 AM PDT by raybbr

We’re not going to mince words. Chris Dodd is a lying weasel. It is hard enough to swallow that the senator had no idea that he got preferential treatment on his home mortgages that saved him thousands of dollars. Or that, simply out of friendship, a wealthy New York man, who was later convicted in a huge stock swindle, picked up much of the cost of a condo Dodd bought in Washington; or that the stock swindler’s business partner out of a love of Ireland did the same for Dodd when the senator bought a waterfront house in Ireland.

Now, Dodd flat-out has lied about his role in legislation that is allowing employees of American International Group to receive $400 million in bonuses despite receiving $173 billion in taxpayer money to keep the failed financial giant alive.

We praised Dodd on March 9 for authoring an amendment to the $787 billion stimulus bill that barred the top executives and highest-paid workers at companies that took government bailout money from receiving bonuses. Sharply down in opinion polls, Dodd was riding the wave of public anger at Wall Street’s greed.

What Dodd did not reveal at the time was that there was a provision in his amendment that exempted any bonuses, including AIG’s, in contracts dated prior to Feb. 11. The exemption was cited by Obama administration officials as the reason they were powerless to stop AIG’s payment of the bonuses.

LOL. Dumbasses didn't read the legislation before doling out their praise. They should have known on March 9 that Dodd was a lying weasel. But no ... they felt like doling out praise. Now that somebody has caused the legislation to become a matter of public knowledge, the paper is trying to cover it's tracks. I'm not buying it. Add one more lying weasel to the pile.

Too late, New Haven Register.
You’re morons, and you will continue to be morons.
Dodd is your boy and you’ve been cuddling up to him
for a long time.

“he is not a lying weasel, he is a lying crapweasel”.

...I would tend to agree with “crapweasel” being more suitable.

Connecticut used to be a solid Republican stronghold. Whatever happened to it?

I do not want him to resign. I do not want the voters to fire him. I do not want to see him just fall away from politics and fade away from our minds.

All I want is for him to lose all of his treasures, including his family’s treasure, and spend the rest of his disgusting life in prison, or worse. That’s all I want... justice.

So, this is the first time Dodd lied? Or is it the first time he lied that the paper thought was important enough to call him a lying weasel?

That makes the editorial board a bunch of fools on three different levels at the same time.

Dodd, however, is the perfect senator for his state. He is the con from CONN. Never anything other than a cheap crook. Habitually ran for Prez for one reason only -- campaign contributions. His Prez campaign was just another conduit for bribe money--with never a chance to even smell one electoral vote-- and everyone knew it.

Everyone, I guess, except the fools from CONN who continuously voted for the inept swindler. Thanks to states like CONN and their Blue State buddies, we can count on a never ending stream of crooks and socialists to run the country into the sewage dump. Thanks CONN and NY and NJ and Mass and CA and etc etc etc etc

While the prospects seem good for Dodd going down in flames and being replaced by a Republican, remember NJ. When Torricelli was headed for a certain loss, the NJ Supreme Court disregarded law and placed Lautenberg on the ballot. The trough swillers in NJ were in hog heaven to get any Dem in office to replace the dirtbag Torch.

The defense industry was very big in CT...so CT typically got more money back from the government then the taxpayers paid in.

Then one brisk autumn Lowell Weicker was voted in as a maverick republican and instituted the income tax to stem the bleeding from the corrupt O’neil and the state has never recovered from this.

Should be noted...Weicker campaigned on an anti-income tax platform...he even said...instituting an income tax would be like pouring gasoline on a fire...

That is how he got elected...literally the first thing he did was sign in the income tax.

over 80,000 people protested at the capital in Hartford after that.

I still have my sporting “Hey Weicker - VETO THIS!” hat. It is my reminder of how you CAN NEVER trust any politician in this country.

Thank you for the posting!

Dodd is scum. Between him and his “Waitress Sandwich” partner, they should have been expelled from the Senate and imprisoned.

Why not. She must circle over CT while going from NY to MA.
That meets the residence requirements according to Rep.(D) Pete Stark.

Democrats will dump on anyone who is so obviously damaged (and unrepairable) that they would cause them to lose seats to a republican. Like Blagojevich.

What is significant about this article is that it signals the start of a Dodd feeding frenzy. We will all have a good laugh over what we perceive as the Dems self-destructing. But its just part of their process to save votes.

The earlier the democrats dump Dodd, the sooner they can get a replacement in the pipeline. Richard Blumenthal seems to be the Dodd replacement that is being groomed. For those not in Connecticut, Blumenthal has been the attorney general for a very long time. Very anti-business, sometimes reminds me of Eliot Spitzer.

The likely republican contender, Rob Simmons, is sort of a RINO. Not as bad as Chris Shays. He’s probably as conservative as a New England politician can be and still get elected.
