Biden jokes about Obama's birth certificate at dinner

WASHINGTON – While the subject of Barack Obama's birth certificate is still a topic most press outlets refuse to cover, it became a matter of sport in Vice President Joe Biden's Gridiron Dinner address this weekend.

After mentioning one of the Republican speakers for the evening, Arnold Schwarzenegger, was born in Austria and that one of the Democratic speakers, Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm, was born in Canada, Biden chortled: "Folks, this is going to be Lou Dobbs' worst nightmare.

From there, Biden transitioned to the birth certificate controversy.

I don’t disagree with what you said. But, by Joe opening his big mouth, he gave insight into the Obama administration. Up until this time, there has been no mention of the BC issue. It did not exist. Now we know differently. :-)

Christ turned the water to wine because He is the water of life and blood that cleanses.

His first miracle is symbolic of His mission to this earth.

My husband chuckled at the birth certificate comment but when I told him that Biden said he couldn’t attend because he was getting ready for Easter and thought Easter was about him I thought my husband was going to choke on his steak....

I’m just going by what the Bible specifically says… there are a TON of verses against wine drinking in the Old Testament

And many more that praise it!

"But the vine answered, 'Should I give up my wine, which cheers both gods and men, to hold sway over the trees?' Judges 9:13

“He makes grass grow for the cattle, and plants for man to cultivate— bringing forth food from the earth: wine that gladdens the heart of man, oil to make his face shine, and bread that sustains his heart.”Psalms 104:14-15 (Note that wine is one of the three food groups of the OT!)

The Ephraimites will become like mighty men, and their hearts will be glad as with wine. Their children will see it and be joyful; their hearts will rejoice in the LORD. Zechariah 10:7

The attitude of Jesus toward wine, like that of the entire Bible, is neutral. The bible praises its use, and finds fault in its intemperate use.

When the BC issue first came up, Obama said something to the effect that “it would be embarrassing”.

Wonder what he meant?

Jesus, but where is the verse that says He drank any?

Why in the world wouldn't he?

So if you want to call Jesus a sinner go ahead and say He drank wine.

So let me get this right - You say drinking wine is a sin. But Jesus turned water into wine. So the first miracle of Jesus was to lead people to sin.

Makes absolutley no sense whatsoever!

When the bartender said “Yes,” the Republican sent Jesus’s favorite beverage.

(there, is that better?)

Oh heck, I’ve seen Baptists get red faced mad insisting it was grape juice.

I've seen all sorts of tortured logic trying to deal with this, including Jack van Impe claiming that unfermented, freshly pressed grape juice was called "wine" and that this is what Jesus turned the water into. It's pretty pathetic when people adopt a position and then have to ignore reality in order to keep defending it.

I think that, back then, the sources of refreshments were rather limited.

The acts of EATING BREAD or DRINKING WINE are given in terms of common acts.

Bread was the staple. With it you could have water, wine, or goat’s milk. Depending on availability.

There is no verse in the entire Bible that specifically says Jesus drank wine. At the Last Supper the words are “fruit of the vine” (grape juice), not “wine”.

Grape juice in the first decade! Your joking? The only way to preserve grape juice was to make it into wine. They didn't have the sulfide preservatives to keep juice as we do. Why go through all the work to squeeze grapes into juice that would soon spoil. Might as well as eat the grapes. Get over it. Fruit of the vine is wine. Grape juice sucks anyways.

Wine is a fermented product and fermentation is symbolic of SIN in the Bible.

When Mary asked Jesus to make wine, she was asking her son, the Son, to create a sinful product? His first miracle was to make a sinful fermented product?

Methinks you should go back and read your New Testament, again.

That’s what happened. Look it up. Mary was a sinner just like you and me. Jesus was NOT a sinner, therefore Jesus did NOT drink alcohol.

It was a cinch to make grape juice. You take the grapes, you squeeze them with your hands, and out comes juice. It was a much more involved process to make wine.

Why are you in defiance of the scriptures? Why do you want to defend drunkeness? Why do you say Jesus was a sinner and drank wine when no verse in the Bible shows Him drinking wine? Don’t you know that is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit and blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is the one unforgiveable sin?

I think ya’ll need to read more. It says what it says. God preserved what He preserved for a reason.

When He drank the wine at the last supper He didn’t ask us to do it in rememberance of Him?

Woman, if you don’t understand that grape juice couldn’t have been consummed months after its production, then I’m not surprised that you have difficulty understanding that when God’s Word says, WINE, it means WINE. God’s Word is not ambiguous or deceptive.

....When He drank the wine at the last supper

Yet AGAIN: SHOW ME THE VERSE THAT SAYS HE DRANK WINE. At the Last Supper it was “fruit of the vine” (grape juice) that He served to the apostles. IT DOES NOT SAY HE DRANK IT. He served it to THEM.

If all the associations of wine in Scripture really meant unfermented grape juice, then why did one attendee at the wedding feast exclaim how the host had kept the best wine till last, where most hosts served the best wine first? It makes sense when we read of wine, but not of grape juice.

BTW, drinking wine is not sinful, but becoming drunk in the flesh, living by the flesh, including legalism is sinful. We are to walk by the spirit.

“Do this in rememberance of me.”

He drank the wine, and told them to do so in rememberance of Him.

Again, the Word is not deceptive.

IF drinking wine was sinful, He wouldn’t have told them to sin!

GOD never tells His faithful to sin for Him!
