A police officer was battling for his life and three more were dead after a parolee with an "extensive criminal history" opened fire at a routine traffic stop and hours later gunned down members of a SWAT team searching for him.

Why isn’t this a hate crime? Can anyone answer me that?
The reporting was from AP and you would expect this response. It is the "assalt" rifle and not the criminal that is at fault.
Policemen face a dangerous but necessary job. It would be interesting to know the details of the perps extensive criminal history.
The black uniformed SWAT team thing for police departments really bothers me. Sounds like in this instance it was warranted, but in many cases it is like killing a fly with a sledge hammer.
Will there EVER be any consequences for the people who let this kind of vermin back out on the streets?
It is unconscionable that someone with an extensive criminal history, including assault with a deadly weapon, is not isolated from the rest of society.
This will invoke fresh rage amongst gun control advocates, and renewed angst amongst molly-coddlers. But news flash -- when predators are released, they break the law again, regardless of what the law is. Wow -- REVELATION! Reform doesn't work when consequences are negligable.
There’s a photo of the perp here:

An excellent question. Have you’ve seen the abomination that is posted on YouTube about this?
“People lingered at the scene of the first shooting. About 20 bystanders taunted police.
Tension between police and the community has risen steadily since the fatal shooting of unarmed 22-year-old Oscar Grant by a transit police officer at an Oakland train station on Jan. 1.”

Sounds like it was a real hostile environment.
> Sounds like it was a real hostile environment.
If twenty people run amuck, it’s pretty much a mini-riot.
Seriously, I mean this legislation should fly through — we have hate crime legislation for every other gosh darn group out that doesn’t need it, but these, these are the guys we expect to keep us safe...I’m pissed. This should be a hate crime!!!!!! Killing a Police Officer in the commission of his/her duties is a hate crime!!!!!! Why else would someone kill a Police Officer????

The scum! Look at the attitude.
Good riddance!
No minority victims. (not sarcasm, just the sad truth)
Who gives a damn? Isn't the murder of three police officers enough for you?
Besides, the shooter is dead. He is not going to be charged with anything.
And with Ron Dellums at the helm it won't get any better.
Yep!! I already knew what the picture confirmed.
And now the full court “press” begins for the new Assault Rifle ban that 0bami wants.
Obviously this criminal did not buy this rifle (if there really was one used) in a store.
Now we will see a deluge of “assault rifle” stories for the next ? months until this new law is passed.
The problem with that, which the press won’t mention, is that assault rifles are already banned in California.
To you and me it is.
Have you ever seen a college level Soc 101 textbook?
These people are not criminals, they are products of the dysfunctional society that they are enmeshed within, and as such, are victims.
It is society that is to blame. This man needed to be rehabilitated and, once again, society failed him at that.
The liberal educational system breeds this mindset
I would never work as a cop in Oakland.
Allow me the indulgence of digging deeper.
This was not a White on whomever crime.
There, I said it. White.
According to all reports, through unfettered immigration, abortion, homosexuality, and the dysfunctional educational system, whites will be a distinct minority soon.
Will all hate crimes then be abolished?
No? Theres the clue.
> I would never work as a cop in Oakland.
I wouldn’t want to be a cop anywhere these days. It is a thankless task.
