Drug raids gone bad Shopkeepers say plainclothes cops barged in, looted stores & stole cash

ON A SWELTERING July afternoon in 2007, Officer Jeffrey Cujdik and his narcotics squad members raided an Olney tobacco shop.

Then, with guns drawn, they did something bizarre: They smashed two surveillance cameras with a metal rod, said store owners David and Eunice Nam.

The five plainclothes officers yanked camera wires from the ceiling. They forced the slight, frail Korean couple to the vinyl floor and cuffed them with plastic wrist ties.

"I so scared," said Eunice Nam, 56. "We were on floor. Handcuffs on me. I so, so scared, I wet my pants."

The officers rifled through drawers, dumped cigarette cartons on the floor and took cash from the registers. Then they hauled the Nams to jail.

The Nams were arrested for selling tiny ziplock bags that police consider drug paraphernalia, but which the couple described as tobacco pouches.

When they later unlocked their store, the Nams allege, they discovered that a case of lighter fluid and handfuls of Zippo lighters were missing. The police said they seized $2,573 in the raid. The Nams say they actually had between $3,800 and $4,000 in the store.

“No judge, no jury, no verdict... “Why do you leftists hate the police so much?”

We aren't leftists. Leftists are socialists, who love a police state. It makes it easier to control the populace.

As to why we hate the police so much, the answer is we don't hate all police, we only hate the police that act above the law and who victimize the innocent people they are hired to protect. As you say, "No judge, no jury, no verdict.".. just police serving no one but themselves.

If you had any morals you would hate them as well. Only the blind could support the thugs that many police have become.

“George Bochetto, an attorney representing Cujdik, said the store owners’ allegations are false.”

He is a defense attorney. Of course he is going to say the allegations are false. If he didn't he would be disbarred for for gross incompetence. The truth will come out in court. There is physical evidence, and it will be pretty easy to see who is lying then.

In the mean time all the information we have is whats in the article. That information seems creditable given the facts of other police abuse cases, but even if 90% of the article is wrong, the fact that they would be handcuffed and arrested for selling zip lock bags is outrageous on it's own. That fact isn't disputed by anyone.

Why aren't the local grocery store owners also arrested? Are Glad bags outlawed? Are these people insane for arresting people for selling plastic bags?

“What defendent? Or are you so eager for a conviction you can't even wait for a cop to be charged before finding him guilty?”

He has a lawyer. Obviously he he needs defending or he wouldn't have one or is that too logical?

You must be one of the brave officers who participated in this well executed exercise in brutality.

You must not be very bright.

Serving a warrant actually. Do you know what a warrant is?

There haven't been any charges filed against the officers. Ask someone to read the article to you.

No, that's actually pretty stupid. You don't have to be charged with a crime to have a lawyer.

"There haven't been any charges filed against the officers."

Not criminal, at least not yet. Do you know what a civil suit is? If suit is brought against him, he will have to defend himself, thus he hired a lawyer. You must not be very bright.

However, several of their accusers have been convicted.

For selling plastic bags.

Do you have stainless, or silver cutlery, or both?

Happens every day in every city. Lots of people who get arrested show up at booking missing cash and jewelry.

Not criminal, at least not yet.

Not anything, at this point.

Do you know what a civil suit is?

One that doesn't involve a defendant being charged with a crime. Do you know what a non sequitur is?

A liberal paper, some leftwing community organizers and a handful of already convicted perps make accusations and you leftists get all excited.

For selling plastic bags

Bzzzzt, false.

In his announcement yesterday, Center City lawyer George Bochetto said he will provide information showing the allegations involving Officer Jeffrey Cujdik are based "solely on the highly-suspect, self-serving testimony of . . . a former drug dealer and convicted felon."

Let me guess...Black males were involved?

In this particular case, I think that comments like that indicate a bad attitude. Stuff like that makes me wonder why I associate with this website. But let's look at the evidence:

Undercover police don't usually have their picture taken, but we do have their names from the complaint filed against them. Based on their last names I would say:

Cujdik........No way
Malkowski.....No way
Liciardello...No way
Walker........Possible
Reynolds......Possible

I used to be a true believer like you, though not such a boot licking ass I didn't see some daylight now and then.

I hope for the day the glorious light of freedom will shine upon you. When you see it, don't be afraid, but come to it, and it will set you free as it has done many before you.

You can find the way if you will see. Meantime I, for one, shall no more crawl in the soil of your wallow.

It is a joke and if they didn’t steal the mentol cigges for themselves, they were going to sell them to the Amish.

By all means, go bag some cops and dance in their blood.

Some of your fellow citizens and FReepers don't need a lot of encouragement.

You should refrain from..........

it's a sad day when cops don't want people to know what they do for a living.

Or, it could be a sign that you might want to look around for something more productive to do to earn a living.
